I really like Roger the best of all Bonds, as you can tell from my signature, and I wouldn't want to take him out of any of the Bonds he made.
That said Timothy did do an excellent job in his Bond portrayal. I really like him in The Living Daylights.
All the 007 actors were very good in their own rights. It's unfair to compare any of them to each other. Every individual movie has merit in it whoever stars in it. Each one does his own personal take on Bond's character and they do it superbly.
That's one of the reasons why I don't like Roger Moore besides being too old for the part I think he outstayed his welcome. Moore should've hung up his shoulder holster after Moonraker.
I think Tim Dalton should've been the go to guy for Bond back in the 1980's.
Dalton would have been great in this film because of its seriousness, and the scene with Locque in the car on the edge of the cliff would have been better with Dalton because he would have really kicked the car over the edge instead of Moores pussyfoot kick. i reckon the help of god helped Roger with that scene.

Agreed. The worrying thing is that that scene is often cited by the 'Roger not a wimp' faction as evidence of his toughness/physicality. It makes me wince whenever I see it, as in reality the only thing to have fallen after a kick like that would have been Roger flat on his behind.
FYEO would have had to be heavily rewritten, but I just don't think it would have worked as well. TLD has fresh energy perfect for TD. This was RM's return to a more Cold War influenced world. Also, I think it would have been too early to go for a new Bond.

Interesting you mention this combo - I was sick from work today and these two were back-to-back on USA network's Bond marathon. (I'm not sure of the scheduling).
All I have to say is, they cheered me up tremendously, and pretty soon, I was awash in a wave of nostaglia, sickness hardly felt, & resting safely on the back burner. So, I guess you could call them an 'anti-depressant' to some. -{
As for Locque's cliff kick death, (actually more of a dislodge), no word yet on whether Pele', (or David Beckham) were available) 8-)
Appreciated Moore's Bond in the 70s (even if he never really convinced me he was Fleming's character), but 80s Moore was a big flop for me: just too old for the part, he comes across as spoofing the character even when he's being serious cuz I just don't believe in the verisimilitude being presented. Dalton in FYEO - with a script rewrite/polish and an actual director on board - would've been the best thing for the series since Connery got hired for the role in DN. I can understand Cubby's reluctance to change horses but jeepers it made for a crappy decade of Bond (IMHO), and a lesser take on Bond EON is just now coming out from under.

Well Dalton definitely wouldn't have pussykicked that car off the cliff the way "Sir Roger" did.
