After venturing to watch 'Monsters vs Aliens', the latest in this current fad of 3D films, I must admit, I was quite impressed - 3D technology has certainly improved.
What would your views be on a 3D Bond offering? I'm torn, on one hand it may stink of novelty, but with the Bond films renowned for exotic locales and intense action, could they benefit from that extra dimension? And indeed, what about seeing the entire franchise undergo such a transformation? There are constant rumors about the Star Wars films heading that way...
One moment certainly springs to mind. If DAD's gunbarrel was scary in 2D, just imagine...

What is 4D?
Dalton - the weak and weepy Bond!
not sure about a whole film, but i'd love to see the tank chase in GE done in 3D.

That's an interesting idea. I've always been something of a 3D nut and I must confess that a Bond movie in 3D might be fun. Seeing stuff like the gunbarrel logo in 3D would probably add a new dimension (no pun intended) and the action sequences and stunts could probably benefit from the added depth perception and occasional bullet safely flying toward the viewer if they were done right.
The thing with 3D is that it can easily devolve into a gimmick. You don't want something popping out of the screen every 30 seconds; you should use the 3D technology to enhance the viewing experience, move the story forward and pop something out of the screen only when its really warranted. It would be a fine line to walk but it could definitely bring something new to the table.
As to the notion of making the prior movies 3D; the technology exists and George Lucas has said on numerous occasions that he's working on just such a project with his Star Wars films; so it is technically possible to do it with Bond.
There are also some 3D ready TV sets already on the market; all it would take is a firmware upgrade on modern BluRay players and movies like Monsters vs. Aliens and Bolt could be mastered to run in true, full color 3D right in our own homes.
Looking a bit further down the road, Mitsubishi is even working on a BluRay player which, when used in conjunction with its 3D ready TVs could in theory make any DVD popped into the player appear in 3D.
So there is all sorts of potential for the technology both in the theater and at home.
