Casper Feming

Ian Fleming had a son named Casper. Sadly he committed suicide in his early 20's. There is very little information about him. Even in the John Peirce biography of Fleming. Does anyone know anything about Casper?

He committed suicide in 1974 in Jamacia.

    10 years after Fleming died.

They are both buried next to each other as well I think. His wife aswell?

Andrew Lycett's biography of Fleming has more information--Caspar was heavily into drugs, and this apparently played a role in his suicide. (BTW, the earlier Fleming biography is by John Pearson--it was authorized by Fleming's widow, and Caspar was very much alive when it was published.)

Thanks, this very interesting. But do you know about Ian's relationship with Casper? Were they close? Did Ian like Casper?

I did read about Caspar in the Lycett book but don't remember if Ian and Caspar were entirely estranged or not. I think that Caspar went away for school, just like Fleming did and he acted out his resentment towards his father with the drugs and capitalizing on his father's fame (I believe after he had already died) selling Ian's personal belongings to his school friends to fund his habit. Being obsessed over Bond's smoking items, I wonder if Fleming's own cigarette case and lighter were among those itmes that Caspar sold off?
