i'd love to see the Staglieno graveyard in Genova in a Bond film. What makes Staglieno special are the staues: they are sad, touching, disturbing, scary, pious, beautifull ....even erotic, and very realistic!
Apologies if this has been mentioned elsewhere, but today's Guardian is reporting that Versailles is bidding as a location for Bond 23:
Parisian civil servants have gone so far as to write a storyline for 007, aimed at luring series producers Eon to the 17th-century palace. Scenarios might include Bond chasing through the palace after environmental terrorists, or perhaps making his escape through gardens designed according to the exacting tastes of Louis XIV.
"We want to give the producers some ideas, because it would be great to have James in the magnificent decor of the château," Stéphane Martinet, the deputy director of the Paris region film commission, told the Times. "Producers tend to think of it as a setting for period movies, but these are not the most profitable films these days. We would like to get across the message that Versailles could be a location for all sorts of different movies."
Perhaps a good idea, but they have to come up with a good reason why Versailles is important in the story. I got it: politicians could sign a new treaty in Versailles! ::))

I got to tour Versailles back in 1982, and of course was blown away by the size and grandeur of the place. It's a Bondian place for sure.

I beat you by a year or two, and I remember actually being surprised by how small the rooms are. My early-teen mind didn't calculate how much all the gilding and art must have cost.
But on topic, I'd think the fact these people wrote a Bond scenario incorporating Versailles automatically puts them out of the running. EON won't take unsolicited stories, and they won't want anyone hollering "plagiarism" if they go anywhere near the palace.

Imagine an encounter with an informant here, perhaps at night. Or maybe even a shoot-out?
