Bond and M

Which James Bond has better chemistry with Judi Dench's M Pierce Brosnan or Daniel Craig? I think it's a tie.

It is close, perhaps too close to call. But Brosnan had four outings, and Craig has had two. So technically Craig has the edge.
I'd like to see M assassinated by Quantum in the next one - perhaps in the pre-title sequence. Maybe all roads can lead to Mr. White and that loose end can be tied and Bond can have a new story, new M and maybe even a Moneypenny and Q.

If Judi Dench's M is killed off in Bond 23 maybe Patrick Stewart could be the new M and maybe Jaime Murray (Stacie Monroe-Hustle) could be the new Moneypenny I have no idea who could be the new Q though. Michael Caine sounds like a good choice on paper but I'm not sure if he wants to be Major Boothroyd and Alfred Pennyworth.

I'd say it's a tie at this point too,M seems to of become Bond's mum.I'd be happy to see her killed but would settle for less screen time her part in the movies just keeps getting bigger.I liked it better when all M had to do was point Bond in the direction of some villan and tell him to get on with it.

Does that mean you prefer Judi Dench's performance/role in GoldenEye? In that movie she just gives Bond his assignment and disappears.

If only. :# I love GE, the last great Bond film IMO, but that film features one of my all-time least favourite lines. I'm referring to when M calls Bond a "sexist, misogynist dinosaur." I really hate this as 1)I get the sense that Campbell and co want to respond to criticism of Bond, and 2)it's an introduction of psychoanalysing which I really don't like.

Judi Dench is a fine actress and In Goldeneye I thought they got her screen time about right.Just set up the target and let Bond loose for the next two hours.:D

:D Yes, that's exactly the amount of screen time they should give M. Sadly, however, I think that the last four or five Bond films gave M too much screen time, although that's not surprising considering Judi Dench is playing M.

BTW, Thunderpussy, I agree about Dench being a fine actress; I think she's one of the greatest of all time. I just don't think she should be M.

Then who should be M? I'd like to see Patrick Stewart as M but I'm not sure if he could grow into the part or if the audience would tolerate him.

    Dame Judi's been a fine M...

But she's had her six ;)

I agree that the tendencey that started in GE and continues through to QOS with M having much more screen time/plot involvement should end. I think that the chemistry with both Brosnan and Craig is fine, but Brosnan had more opportunity to arrive at a mutual respect than Craig has yet .If Dame Judi continues in Bond 23 i think that we will see that trust develop as was hinted at by the end of QOS.

Yeah...give them half the film, in #23, to display a rounded relationship where M fully realizes that Bond is her most talented knight errant...then kill her.

Like I said, she's had her six :v The one in the chamber makes seven, and that should be the one that caps her.

I love Stewart, and this may sound incredibly shallow, but I think that M should have hair. {:) I know, it probably sounds incredibly silly, but if a bald actor is going to play a Bond character, I think he should play Blofeld instead of M. In the context of Bond, lack of hair (and I say this as someone who's losing hair) is IMO more suitable for a villain than a Bond ally. ;)

You're right it does sound incredibly stupid. Because the guy who was M in the Timothy Dalton era was bald and I don't care if he had hair on the side of his head because bald is bald.

Patrick Stewart would IMHO be a great M ,But the same problem would arise as he's such a well known actor The part of M would be expanded to more scenes.I'd rather have an unknown or an older actor who would be happy to call into the studio once every two years for a couple of days filming and then get back to his semi-retirement.

I personally wouldn't want Dalton, or any other Bond, as M as it would be too distracting. Every time I see M, I'll think to myself, 'wait a minute, didn't you play Bond in those two travesties of the late 80's?" :v :)) I think it would be far better to have an unknown actor play M.

When he was cast, Bernard Lee was hardly an unknown actor.

    Neither was Judi Dench unknown.

I know Timothy Dalton is gay, but it's hardly fair to accuse him of being a transvestite in the late 80's.

Timothy Dalton is not gay in either sense of the word particularly.

True, but there's known and there's known. Having a fomer Bond play M would take the audience too much out of the picture IMO.

:)) I referred to the films as travesties, as in the plural to travesty. Mister White, this has got to be one of the funniest misunderstandings I've experienced on this site in quite a while. :))

Maybe, maybe not. Stupid however is more offensive than silly, which is why I prefer to be called silly, rather than stupid. 8-)

As CR was a reboot of the series I wonder if the new M would be introduced as Sir Miles, or as a new M.
