Personally, I think two of these films are quite overrated. Although FRWL is my second favourite Bond film, I think its reputation is slightly overstated as I don't think it plays nearly as well on the big screen as many other Bond films such as DN, and I think it has a few problems towards the end. OHMSS has rightfully seen its reputation increase, although I would still place it at sixth on my 'greatest ever Bond film' list (behind the first four and TSWLM) and I think that in the rush to fully rehabilitate it, OHMSS has among Bond fans entered into the 'overrated' category. Interestingly enough, I think there is an attempt to downgrade GF's status or to paint it as 'overrated.' Yes, many people genuinely don't love it, but I also think that for whatever reason, there has been a trend in recent times to bring it down a few pegs.

Come on Dan Goldfinger is not over rated.

After just viewing all three of the first films again, DN stands out and might just move to the second slot. Tough, with sophisticated humor, Bond doing actual spying, lack of gadgets…
FRWL, great story with an excellent cast, sexy as hell, but your right it does lose something after the confrontation with Grant on the train, and the abundance of gadgets begins here not in GF as I used to think, also I get a sense of claustrophobia watching it. Connery’s eyebrows bother the hell out of me. They have a life of their own. ?:)

Right you are, I'll get to it after it knocks off GF and I have to explain why it deserves top billing!

Multiple viewing tend to do that.
Bond glides through the film in a mooreesq way, never really threatened at all, over top gadgets, silly humor, ridiculous situations bad? writing……… Don’t get me wrong I love the film, it’s funny, great acting with legendary scene’s and characters, terrific soundtrack.

I adore DN. I have it at number four as I think it's quite rough, and I don't think that Connery prefected his persona yet, but I really do love it. When I saw it with FRWL at the cinemas a few years ago, I was taken back at just how much DN vastly surpassed FRWL in terms of the 'big screen' viewing experience. Honey Rider is even more beautiful on the big screen than she is on DVD/TV. :x

I'll stay away from the eyebrows. ) I love gadgets but what concerns me about FRWL is that after the confrontation with Grant, the film featured numerous climatic encounters, very few of which IMO (the fight with Klebb was a notable exception) truly added to the film. I also think the film suffered from pacing problems at other parts. A brilliant film though, just not a wondeful film to see on the big screen IMO.
Right you are, I get to it after it knocks off GF and I have to explain why it deserves top billing!
If, not after. :v OHMSS is a masterpiece, you won't get any arguments from me on that, but I do think it is quite flawed (much of Lazenby's performance, the 'it never happened to the other fellow' line, the under-developed screenplay and I was never as taken with Diana Rigg as other Bond fans), and IMO nowhere near as good as GF.

I think that because GF wasn't as realist as either FRWL or as rough as DN, one could charge it with processing over top gadgets, silly humour and ridiculous situations; assuming of course that one thinks that this is a bad thing. However, is the humour really any more silly than FRWL in which Bond said 'Yes, she had her kicks' in reference to Klebb? Granted, that may not be as silly as 'My name is Pussy Galore''I must be dreaming', but then it comes down to individual taste. Regarding the situations, some of them are absurd, but at the same time, they are all logical. For example; Goldfinger has an all-female aviation crew led by a lesbian. But then he is wealthy and vain, so I don't think it's so surprising. Regarding the gadgets, if you're not such a fan of Bondian gadgets, then, no, you probably won't love the gadgets in GF. That said, IMO the ejector seat remains the greatest Bondian gadget of all time. B-)
Bond glideing 'through the film in a mooreesq way, , never really threatened at all'? I can't say that I agree as I do think that Moore was threatened quite alot, but in GF, there was the PTS, Bond's capture and the end. During the middle of the film, he wasn't threatened but he held captive.
All of these criticisms ultimately come down to taste, but bad writing? I know that people have criticised Bond for being too passive or 'superman-like' (two charges which I've never agreed with; the fight with Oddjob saw him as anything but 'superman-like') but I don't know how you can call the writing 'bad'. IMO GF had the best screenplay of all the Bond films, but even if you don't agree with that, how can you can call it 'bad'? ?:)
Anyway, I'm not going to be incredibly disappointed if GF loses out to OHMSS (and FRWL.) Yes, I think that GF was the best Bond film of all time, but I would rather see it lose to a fellow early 60's Connery film and OHMSS, than to either a Dalton or a Craig film. :v

And when they start not smiling back—that’s an earthquake. and then you get yourself a couple of spots on your hat, and you’re finished. Nobody dast blame this man. A salesman is got to dream, boy. It comes with the territory." Death of a Salesman

?:) Right you are, I'll get to it after it knocks off GF and I have to explain why it deserves top billing!
