IMHO CR was so well written and directed that even RM could of played Bond :)) and I think they were thinking of a very young Bond so Henry Cavill would of been fine,I think alot of members believe that he'll be the next Bond after DC.I don't have a problem with that as I've always accepted whichever actor has played the role,I regard myself as a Bond fan ,not a follower of any actor.

I think Cavill would have made more sense, in particular the 'I knew it was too early to promote you' line M uses, and his being mistaken for a car valet, both suggesting the film was written for a younger guy than Craig, as Haggis himself said weeks before Craig's casting was announced.

And I can see him sequeing into Connery more.

Yet, Craig's casting reemphasised that this was a reboot, as he's quite unlike his predessessors and has a different kind of appeal to women, not being conventially good looking.

At the time of casting I thought Cavill made more sense than Craig, especially with the direction the producers indicated they wanted to take, that being the re-boot, how Bond became Bond. Putting Carig in that role screws up the premise from the get go, because he looks to old to be a young Bond. Adding Judi Dench as M, didn't help the premise either.

However, now that the films have been shot, the how Bond becomes Bond has been a minor part of the films, and an emphasis on rough and tumble action has been the focus. Based on the films that have been made, I do not think Cavill would have fit the role, since action has been featured. To me, Cavill looks too young to have been the BOnd we have seen in CR and QoS

Cavill obviously would have fitted a 'young Bond' project better than Craig but they didn't really do much with that concept ultimately after playing it up in the press months before they cast Bond for Casino Royale. I think Cavill in CR/QOS would have been somewhat less stoic rough & tumble than DC although that chance clearly came a few years too early despite speculation that Campbell wanted him. His Dunhill ads are quite Bondish in tone though and suggest he'll be short odds when and if the part is recast.

I was on the Cavill bandwagon prior to Craig's announcement; it was a rather lonely place back then! :)

His time will come, I think, though I expect his Bond to be more of a 'status quo' (i.e., pre-Craig)-style 007. He'll still be young (early 30s?) by the time he gets the part, and will be well-placed for a long run (Roger Moore length!) if his debut is successful---and he enjoys the part.

Besides Bond, this kid was rumoured to have been on the short lists for both Superman and Batman; I think his future is bright, whether he gets to wear the tux or not.

The more films Craig does :p , the better prepared Cavill will be to take the baton :D

I think Cavill would have been different from Craig in some ways, but ultimately very good 007. It would certanly would have made more sense to the new double-0 story.
I think M should have be changed if Cavill had been cast for CR. Craig is extremly masculine, and Dame Dench is the perfect yin to his yang (or is it the other way round?). With Cavill in the role the M for Mother -factor goes up. Cavill would have been better served having a male M like Tom Wilkinson.

I am not familiar with Henry Cavill's work, although when he was considered for CR I saw his picture and he LOOKED like a possible Bond...his age, however, was a factor.

However, I am not here to comment on Cavill so much as to address Arthur Pringle.

Pringle writes that Cavill may be "short odds when and if the the part is recast."

    IF?!?!?!?!?

Did I read that right, Arthur Pringle? Do you say "if"?

With all due respect, sir, cast out any silly notions that the Bond series will end. Mark my words, Arthur, there will NEVER be (at least in our lifetime) an occasion where you will say:"If they make more Bond films..."

Can I predict the future? No. But I stand 1000% behind what Cubby said when asked how long the series would last. His response?

    "Until doomsday."

This whole notion of 'if' Bond is recast is not even a remote possibility. As long as movies are made...Bond movies will exist.

Without a doubt, question or deliberation.

Some may accuse me of Blofeld-like delusions. Fine, I accept that. But make no mistake I am as immovable as Oddjob on this subject.

Facts and figures about other series are irrelevant. Bond is on a completely unique and trail-blazing path in movie history. 22 films and counting...with no end in sight.

"If"...is not a word that is applicable when discussing the future of Bond.

I may be wong, of course, but history will prove me (and Cubby) right.

"Never on the firm's time, sir."
