Obviously there's no common ground here...but IMHO, no actor who recalls the spirit and intent of Fleming's literary hero is an artistic disaster.

    Poor Roger Moore...

Well, I don't agree. Craig and CR did not feel like an apology to me for anything. Connery, Moore and Brosnan, were to me more of how a real Bond should be than either Dalton or Craig. I think that Brosnan's Bond performances were vastly superior to Craig's, and in terms of real acting, again, I think that Brosnan's performances called for real acting mre than Craig's. An example; DAD. Although I hated the screeenplays to CR and QOS, I don't think that Craig was able to surpass the horrors of the screenplays. IMO Brosnan surpassed the horror of the screenplay that was DAD, and produced one of the greatest Bond performances of all time. Finally as for the gamer generation, it doesn't concern me whether the game generation prefers Brosnan or not. If you think it's an insult, well, then it's not much of one.

P.S. I don't determine the quality of a film, or its star's performance, by the box office.

I don't agree. Craig felt like an apology for Pierce Brosnan, and Casino Royale felt like an apology for Die Another Day. Connery, Dalton and Craig were more of how a real Bond should be, rather than Brosnan or Moore - unlike Brosnan though, Moore is actually a great actor. Brosnan's Bond hardly called for real acting, and the only time it did, was when he had to confront Electra about his discovering that she and Renard are working together, and he did terrible in that scene. Downright laughable is more appropriate. Pierce Brosnan didn't have to pass any horrifying screenplay, because his films didn't have screenplays. He didn't have to act, because he was just told to walk on camera, deliver the same Bond lines that you've heard four other actors say, then go home, and put on weight. Daniel Craig, in Casino Royale anyway, had a screenplay to work with, and was actually required to do some kind of acting and performing, beyond saying the same things every other Bond has said before him. And no, Brosnan being the Bond for the gamer generation is not an insult, but explains why there is more than one person who likes him. His performance in Die Another Day was terrible. He was hardly required to perform in that movie. If you're going to talk about Brosnan and performing, say The World is not Enough, or Goldeneye. He was actually required to perform, required to act at some point in those movies. He actually had to show some kind of emotion, which he failed at.

I don't determine the quality of a film, or its star performance by the box office either. If I did, Die Another Day would be Brosnan greatest movie, and one of the greatest Bond movies of all time....
"A dry martini, in a deep champagne goblet. Three measures of Gordons, one of Vodka, half a measure of Kina Lillet. Shake it very well until its ice cold, then add a large thin slice of lemon peel. Got it?" - Ian Fleming's 'Casino Royale'

I think that Brosnan's performance, in the first half of DAD, including his imprisonment and torture, ranks as some of his best Bond work. "Tell it to the concierge" is classic Bond, B-) and I thought the sword fight was quite good...but you can't put a life jacket on an anvil, and the weight of the film's negatives dragged it down.

We'll clearly never agree on this.

    Same for this.

I disagree. I also think that Brosnan is a great actor. Matter of fact, all the Bonds (exceot for Lazenby) are IMO really talented actors, although Dalton and Craig are not IMO great Bonds. (Criag IMO is a much better character actor than a 'star' actor.)

I don't agree. I think he was superb in that scene. I also think he was required to act in most other scenes.

Every film has a screenplay. I think that GE and TWINE had terrific screenplays, TND had an averge screenplay and DAD had a terrible screenplay. Both of the Craig films had IMO horrible screenplays.

I disagree with everything you just said. I will simply say though that acting requires convincing the audience of your 'reality.' Brosnan did it for me; Craig did not.

Please, no! He's running the car industry now, he's telling execs how much they can earn, he's trying to double energy costs, and he's trying to put the almighty government---which does everything else so well!---in control of health care :( He's got more czars than the Romanoffs...

It's getting quite difficult to avoid Mr. Cult of Personality/Big Brother/Leader of the Worker's Paradise Socialist Revolution Party...Please keep him off AJB, at least...

Obama's politics aside, if we were to have a black Bond, I would rather it be him than P Diddy. :D

I probably shouldn't go into this, as I very much want to avoid any possible discussion on politics which would go absolutely nowhere, and also since NP did not make that post for political reasons, however I will simply say that I don't think anyone is talking about shredding the U.S. Constitution. ?:)

I'm talking about it...and Barack Obama is doing it. His czar appointments are unelected and unaccountable to anyone except him...that's what cabinet officials are for.

    MORE GOVERNMENT = LESS FREEDOM

You can have him---in Australia, or the U.K., or anywhere else...but then again, in a way, you already do---because he'll eventually screw up the entire world.

    I'm done.

Well, I'll simply say that I don't agree.

    Back onto topic:

A silly idea for Bond would be Bruno. He will save the world, and would look great whilst doing so. :))

C'mon guys! My Barack posting was a reference to his comment about his bowling and the Special Olympics, a similarly 'bad taste' remark...

    I know...you're just being you :p :))

It's no big deal, and everybody ought to know I don't start political conversations on these boards, but...when I'm browsing a thread about silly Bond ideas, and I'm confronted with one of the ubiquitous, Mao-like images of Big Brother---a political figure---which includes his trademark campaign/political slogan, I will tend to have an immediate, visceral and frank reaction to it. Sorry about that...

    Carry on!

P.S. Freedom of speech is the next thing to go...
