I think the notion of a direct 'carrying on' from QoS has been pretty much denied by Eon...but I expect Quantum to return, all the same, and why not? It's the SPECTRE of its generation, and I'll be suprised if they aren't the foil for Craig's entire run---however long it lasts.

I'd be disappointed if there wasn't some development of the Guy Haines character. There would seem to be so many possibilities involving a powerful highly-placed member of the government. Perhaps the Senator Palpatine of his day and Quantum versus the Empire (British that is)! :v

I just read an article about Pinewood Studios expanding by building a New York street, a Paris square, and that they were thinking about, but not going ahead with, a version of Lake Como. Those all sound Bond-like to me and most studios don't build things unless they know they will be used. Could this be connected to starting work on the new Bond?

New York keeps popping up in conversations and articles. Intriguing...although this particular set seems part of a much larger strategic move to enhance Pinewood Studios' appeal to producers. Rather a bold move in these economic circumstances, but I'm sure it will pay off for them. We'll see if 007 visits this 'New York'---in addition to the real thing B-)

Im with you on this, Craig was in for 4 movies, but whether or not the theme remains is another issue. Personally I see Quantum as a sort of unresolved crime syndicate. I do not however want to see Bond23 as a direct sequel. I am not sure the direct sequel idea worked that well with CR & QOS - one of the great things about Bond is each film stands alone, without knowledge of back stories.

Of course, if there's anything to this at all, it could mean anything---from a PTS to an entire act of the film, or perhaps nothing but research for an element of the plot, with no action set there at all...
But using a drug theme would not be at all incompatible with a New York setting B-)

Rumour Season is awesome, and is becoming more enjoyable to me (thanks to AJB's forum of discussion) than the actual films lately.
On a personal note, I wouldn't mind a Craig movie that ignores completely the Quantum storyline. Even Connery got a break from SPECTRE during GF. I'd like to see a Bond movie just for the sake of a Bond movie - no continuing storylines, no returning villians, no unresolved threads - Just Bond, kickin' arse and being cool.

I really prefer the every two years time frame with a pre Thanksgiving release. Can Bond compete with the summer "blockbusters"? The last summer release (LTK) got eaten up by the
competition. Wouldn't want Bond to have to go up against the final Harry Potter film or the next Batman. Has EON ever had a big hit with anything other than a Bond film?
I see what you mean, but for the most part these other blockbusters like Harry Potter get released at Christmas time and have been up against Bond in the past. I suppose Bond might suffer up against Transformers, even if it's a rubbish film. Plus it gets staggered more in summer, it could be any time from late May to late July. Christmas is really only Nov to mid-Dec.
Well, how about a summer 2011 release? That's how it was when I was a kid.
I think Bond in the summertime is great...I'd party like it was 1989!

I think Summer, particularly Summer 2011, will be heavily populated with superheroes. Eon (perhaps rightfully) seems leary of being lost in the crowd of titles being released. They've had a great deal of success in November, and I'll be surprised if they move---the diminished take of LTK isn't something they'll want to relive.

Although I don't particularly like this era, I do want to see a new Bond film, and I think it's terrific that not only has work already begun but that drugs (an underused element in Bond films) will play a role in the next film. I also don't want to see a summer release. There are too many blockbusters released during that period, and I like that Bond has become associated with the latter part of the year, if only with me.

We probably won't see a 'summer' release ever again after the drubbing that LTK got. And with film budgets being what they are these days, who can blame Eon for staying in safer waters. My sole desire for a summer release is strictly nostalgic.

I wonder if EON is thinking after a three year hiatus that the public will be a little hungrier for a Bond film. Also, publicity and marketing was almost nonexistant (at least in the USA) for LTK. With a huge promotional campaign maybe EON believes they can own the summer...and after testing the waters with CR and QOS that they know what works and what doesn't along with what classic/iconic elements to reintroduce and can come up with the new magic formula and create a modern Goldfinger or Thunderball-like box office monster.
