A couple of notables: Duke Snider, the Brooklyn/L.A. Dodgers great, has left us at the age of 83; and one of the screen's greatest sex symbols, Jane Russell, departed at the age of 89. I never saw the Duke play, but in my childhood--back in the '70s--I always saw Jane in those commercials for women's underwear. "Hey, full-figured gals. . ." Only later in life did I know what she meant! RIP, both.

Yeah, guess Jane Russell just missed the Oscar tribute montage by a few hours.

Not sure I've seen her movies much, seems one of those famous Hollywood stars like Ava Gardner who don't leave the legacy they might, or am I being unfair. There's that shot of her with Monroe of course. Was she in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes?

    Michael Gough RIP

A terrific actor who deserves to be remembered for much more than Alfred. 94 was a great age--RIP, indeed!

I just saw this, sad news!

Whenever I think of Michael Gough, I think of all those terrific genre performances with Hammer, Amicus, the Herman Cohen cheapies and much more. It's really not Batman's butler which comes to mind at all!

    Elizabeth Taylor has died :(

Not wholly unexpected, but she's had so many near misses, you'd think she'd go on forever. Only 79, not too old.

I won't say much about her---except that she was an exceptionally fine actress, and one of the most beautiful women in film. A true Star.

We lost one of the all-time great film directors, Sidney Lumet. Look at his list of credits, and you'll see something you know and love. He also did a lot of work with Sean Connery. Farewell, Sid!

Trevor Bannister, the original cheekie chappie in Are You Being Served? has died, aged 76. :( He played Mr Lucas, who would often wind up Mrs Slocombe, or Miss Brahms.

She actually had quite an American following. . .her picture was on AOL today and even the newspaper to which I subscribe mentioned her passing. Good night, lady.
