I know!
I loved his music, his ability to move and adapt with the times.
My favourite songs by him were "changes" "Starman" and "heroes".
Believe it or not, he was considered to play Max Zorin in A View To A Kill at one stage.
I grew up with his music.

Heartbroken to hear of Bowie's passing. He has always been my favourite solo musical artist.
Words fail me.

From his first, self-titled album to Black Star, David Bowie is that rarest of artists who always created and never followed. The man has now become the legend and he'll forever live on through his music.
Goodbye David and thank you.

I saw him in concert twice...the first time in '83, during the 'Serious Moonlight' tour in Phoenix, Arizona, when I was serving in the Air Force. I bought a single ticket, because none of my friends were interested in going. The main floor was general admission...and as a guy alone I worked my way to the front and got a 'high five' from him near the end.
An astonishingly original artist/musician/actor/entrepreneur. There'll not be another one like him. Ever.
Rest in peace

Very sad news, an absolute individual human being! I always David bowie would have made a superb bond villain when I was younger. A tragic end for a great artist.
A sad day indeed. Long time admirer of David Bowie, from approx 1973, beginning with great songs such as Life On Mars, Drive In Saturday and The Man Who Sold The World. I had the good fortune to see Bowie perform at Wembley Stadium during his Glass Spider Tour in 1987, a cherished memory. RIP.

A shocker, and his new album is out next week isn't it?
In fact it was released last Friday, on his birthday...essentially a jazz record I believe.

Sad news--Bowie was one of the greats. I saw THE MARTIAN a couple of months ago, and it put "Starman" in my head. Never was an earworm more welcome to me!
like myself, David was a boy from Stockwell ,he lived in the next road to us (true) so I feel a special affection to David ,IM sure Big Roger Moore another Stockwell lad ,will shed a parting tear for David also ,a true musical genius we will never see his like again , RIP David from your brothers from Stockwell ,where ever we may be .
By the way, did I tell you, I was "Mad"?

I actually received a condolence text from my ex-wife when she got the news about Bowie. His music has filled my home frequently over the years...and will tonight.

"Elvis Presley was a major hero of mine. And I was probably stupid enough to believe that having the same birthday as him actually meant something. … I went to see Elvis in 1972, I flew over from London to see Elvis at Madison Square Garden on Friday, June 9th, 1972. I absolutely had to see him before anything happened to him. Elvis was pretty good at that time. He was still in pretty great shape and it wasn't that long after the black leather show that was on television."
RIP Bowie.......both him and Walken are big Elvis fans.
There are few musical geniuses as Bowie. One of the greatest, and it always felt to me like he was one of those superheroes who can never die. I would love to have seen him in concert… but his music will always be with us.

So sad. I first heard him back in '69 when I was about five or so, my sister played "Space Oddity" on one of those great big reel to reel tape decks, loved him since then. RIP David -{
Small mercies that he died at 69 and not decades earlier when you recall his drug-taking activities in the 70s, something to be grateful for I suppose. Odd, it was the cigs that did for him in spite of all that, as with George Harrison, who was on 60 a day sometimes.
And, introducing a touch of levity, glad it was after Christmas so we didn't get a re-release of Little Drummer Boy with a bewildered old Bing hogging the airwaves.
There's a strange bit of footage of Bowie at a 70s Sinatra concert I think, when Frank notices him in the audience and asks if it is him, Bowie looks a bit put upon, taken aback. But I think maybe Frank liked Bowie's style at that point, he was doing the suited smart look, a bit of a throwback.
Myself, I was only a singles Bowie fan, but what singles! You'd be hard pushed to find anyone who did them better, I mean arguably his singles are better than the Beatles, the Stones, the Who, any other 'singles' bands who all also did great albums too of course.
Back to early 70s Bowie, in interview he told a story of when he was in New York Greenwich Village and had a knack of fending off folks who asked if it were him. 'No, but I wish I had his money,' he'd reply. Except, one time his mate John Lennon was within earshot. 'No, you mean you wish you had my money' he shot back. ) 'John was very sharp like that, I found,' Bowie recalled.

I started off as a fan of Bowie's singles---ChangesOne, his first greatest hits LP, was the first Bowie vinyl I owned...but I soon lost myself in the deep cuts of Heroes, Ziggy, Scary Monsters, etc. The opening title track of Station to Station is a thundering 10-minute experience.

I suppose if he could keep his recent album releases a secret, so he could his 18-month cancer battle.
Saw him at the Shepherd's Bush Empire in the 90s, very good indeed.
