Today is the anniversary of the The Somme .
The first day of the Battle, July 1 1916, was also the bloodiest, and remains the worst in the British Army's history.
It was a disconcerting sound hearing those whistles after the silence this morning.... Sent a shiver down my spine. It also puts today's troubles into stark perspective.
It was either that.....or the priesthood

RIP the fabulous Caroline Aherne - from The Fast Show to The Mrs Merton Show to The Royle Family - a great actress and writer -{
The Royale Family was a truly well written comedy, it could have you laughing
one moment and crying the next. The episode were the granny dies was simply
marvellous.
"I've been informed that there ARE a couple of QAnon supporters who are fairly regular posters in AJB."
RIP Michael Cimino. Forget The Deer Hunter, his greatest film was Thunderbolt and Lightfoot an undervalued masterpiece, one of Clint Eastwood's finest.
Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.
I cannot imagine how the thousands of family and friends affected by those senseless 84 deaths can be feeling - my heart is heavy at such mindless atrocity.
Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.
A real icon of American TV has died at 81, Garry Marshall. He created such shows as Happy Days and Laverne & Shirley--starring his own sister Penny--and he pretty well put Robin Williams on the map with Mork & Mindy. He also directed some films, with the most popular probably being Pretty Woman. 2016 continues its reaping. . .
So very sad to read of this TP...I met her along with Sir Roger and his wife at a signing a few years ago, very elegant and I have to say I did not think she was as old ( though clearly that is still way to young to pass on). My thoughts are with Sir Roger and his wife at this difficult time.

Remembering the late great John Gardner (1926-2007), author of fourteen original James Bond novels and two film novelisations between 1981 and 1996, on the ninth anniversary of his death on Friday 3 August 2007. -{ :x
"The tough man of the world. The Secret Agent. The man who was only a silhouette." - Ian Fleming, Moonraker (1955).
Horrible news. . .Gene Wilder is dead at 83. He was Willy Wonka (the good one, not the creepy Depp version) and Dr. Fronkhensteen and made me laugh in more things than I can count. Rest in peace. . .

Filled with hatred.
Sir Roger's daughter loses her fight with cancer.
I'm sure all our sympathies and thoughts will be with Sir Roger and his family at this terrible time.
( I noticed he used a lot of my moves )
Yes, he did the country proud. Well done, Carl. -{
