The original was a Dunhill Wideboy, with a special plain black finish.

It would be nice if there were a repro, but I have never seen one. Just the expensive originals - without the special finish of course!

Does anybody know if there is much difference between the Broadboy and the Wideboy?

If anyone is still reading this. An incorrectly listed BB Mk2 on eBay now. Looks like full length roller and in working condition.

Going off the many posts on here, it's from GF. Screenshots suggest so. I believe inOHMSS he used a Dunhill 'Unique'?

No, nothing like a Unique. Look at the PTS carefully, as far as I am aware, to introduce the 'new' Bond they pulled the originals out of the archives, lighter and case, to show that even with a new actor it was still Bond. The Unique was featured in LTK and is the only time it's been seen.

Isn't the TND lighter (Soviet base) a unique as well? Albeit a modern one.

Here's an admittedly lousy screen shot of the OHMSS lighter. To me, it looks to have a full cap.
I could be wrong- need your help brethren...

Also, the colour seems to be a darker gunmetal- could have been patina from all the years of handling?
I'm really not sure, as I have never even smoked a cigarette in my life (raised in California...), so smoking paraphernalia is foreign to me.
So, the golden question is: Is the OHMSS lighter a Wideboy, or Broadboy, and is it a full or half cap????

So...is that lighter on Ebay right for OHMSS? If not, where oh where can I find one?
    Thank you, Tom

Tom, you're right, that's not a Broadboy :# looks too wide to be a Rollagas. Absolutely not a Unique, though. Stumped and knowledge updated. So no the EBay one is not correct. I've also never seen a Broadboy in the DN/GF smooth finish for sale. I have one similar to the EBay offering.

The TND is a Sports Unique, different animal to the LTK Unique

Ha! Is it a Wideboy then?
I really want to get the correct one, as, well, you know how deep the sickness goes Andy...
    Any ideas?
I see from a Google search that there are a few vintage lighter specialists. Came across one in San Francisco that I may pay a visit too, but I would need:
    A) Better, clearer screenshots than what I am able to create.
Maybe all sides, as Lazenby turns it around in his hand a few times at the Baccarat table.
    B) A positive ID on the lighter so I can just inquire for the correct model
    C) Info on the cigarette case would also be helpful. Hope the correct one is engine turned, as I love that detail...
    Cheers!

Tom. I think the names Broadboy and Wideboy are interchangable for the same lighter, unless anyone knows differently. I have been told that the case was custom, I've been looking for five years and have only come close. :(

Contacting the British lighter Society, and a few other sources.
Will report back when I hear something.

Tom, I got your PM. I have waxed and waned about the OHMSS lighter over the years. Sometimes feeling it was the same as Connery's lighter and sometimes not. However, it is likely that they used the same lighter that they did for Connery. The Dunhill Broadboy full cap has two variants, a long body and a short body. I have both. That looks like the long body version. I believe the first picture shows the back of the lighter, before Bond/Lazenby turns it around. In order to get the gun-metal finish, you must coat the lighter in liver of sulphur or take it to a professional jeweler who will do essentially the same thing, albeit more uniformly.

    DG

Edit: Actually, looking at the cap, it looks different to the Broadboy. The Broadboy has a slanted opening with only part of the cap moving up. Those pictures show the whole cap going up. As I said waxing and waning!
So, what sharp little eyes you've got...wait till you get to my teeth.

    Thanks DG,
I was hoping that you would chime in, and come thru with the definitive model, type, serial #, location to buy, and the chap's name...however...looks as if more research is needed.
As I wrote above, I have put the word out, and some screenshots, to some lighter experts. No word back yet, but I will keep everyone posted. Perhaps it is not a Dunhill??
Want to get all the details right, and if I could help other collectors by IDing the correct lighter, then, mission accomplished.
Anyone who can help with this project, please feel free to jump right in!
    Cheers,
    Tom
