Regarding the PTS of Diamonds Are Forever

When Bond is pouring all that mud upon the man in the tub, whatever it would be called, I always thought he was just making inarticulate grunting and spluttering noises as he sank. But listening very closely through headphones I think there just may be words of small desperate dialogue among it.

Maybe I'm only hearing what my mind wants to hear, but as the mud begins to cascade down I think it sounds like he coughs and says "I could die". Then when the camera cuts away and back to him, obviously struggling desperately I think I hear him make a very concerned urk noise before saying "Please. Get me ooomf."

How intensely gripping. Like he was trying to say something to the effect of "Please. Get me out of here before I drown" but he sank before he had a chance to get barely any of it out.

Do any of you think it looks and sounds like that could be possible?

Yes, I have always thought that he was saying something. If memory serves correctly it sounds like "I can't get through..." Now this wouldn't make any sense I know, but as I say that is what it sounds like. I'd be interested to find out what it is he does say. Maybe he is asking Bond for a hamburger or something?

"I can't get out" would certainly make more logical sense than "I can't get through".

I agree it sure would be interesting to know what the exact words are, though what I thought they sounded like must surely be close along the lines.

His last moments must have been terrifying as he realized what was happening.

Heh-heh. Wanting a hamburger. That's a good one. Why not some fries as well? :))

He wasn't even underneath the mud for 20 seconds. Hard to believe that he had already drowned 8-)

That is an interesting point. Plus as I've seen somebody nitpick on some site a long time ago, since Bond pulls him out of the mud so very easily, why couldn't he have saved himself?

If the mud wasn't pinning him down you'd think all he would've had to do was stand up on his feet. 8-)

There's no set length on how long it takes people to drown. Just as one person may survive falling from the same distance that kills someone else, some people take quicker to drown than others.
"He’s a man way out there in the blue, riding on a smile and a shoeshine. And when they start not smiling back—that’s an earthquake. and then you get yourself a couple of spots on your hat, and you’re finished. Nobody dast blame this man. A salesman is got to dream, boy. It comes with the territory." Death of a Salesman

I've never heard anything in this part of DAF. I'm sure it could be there though. Does anyone remember what soundtrack they had going-I usually go for the original mono-and maybe it's just buried down in there.
