LALD censoring in US/UK

Somewhere I read that LALD had been heavily censored in the US and other countries. Does anyone know if this is true, and what exactly was cut?

LALD was actually censored in South Africa because of the interracial relationship between Bond and Rosie Carver. So far as I know, it was never cut down in the US or UK.

Well, it seems unfortunately that I was right. There was some censoring, and only the new Penguin paperbacks have the original British version. Here's the article from commanderbond.net

What a brain fart! I thought I was in the films forum and missed the fact you were talking about the novel! :s Blame it on me being on vacation. But, yes, it was only with the recent Penguin editions that LALD appeared in the U.S. with the N-word and stereotypical dialogue restored.

Go to chapter 5, if the title is "Seventh Avenue" then you have the US edition, which was edited. If chapter 5 is NOT "Seventh Avenue" you have the original UK/Commonwealth version.

Thanks, I'm planning a new article solely focusing on the 'race edits' on LALD and DAF specifically - a fascinating subject!

Yes, there it was "Nigger Heaven". I'm planning an article on this at some point as I have all of the differences noted down somewhere on my computer. It should be a really fun exercise. :)
