Is Megan Fox right for Bond 23?

Recently, there has been a lot of talk about Megan Fox and Bond 23. First, there was the rumour that she had been offered the Bond girl role and turned it down. Then came the denial from her camp: no, she didn't turn it down because there never was any offer.

Regardless of what really happened, I think the most interesting question is: is Megan Fox the right actress for the Bond girl role?

At first glance, the answer would seem to be, most emphatically, a yes. She is beautiful, sexy, and perhaps one of the most marketable young stars in Hollywood today. However, the more I thought about this, the more convinced I became that she is not the right choice for Bond 23.

IMO, the ideal Bond girl should be a woman that, besides meeting the requirements of physical beauty and sex appeal, also brings an air of mystery to the screen. I especially like it if I have never seen her before, so that I can go: "Wow, who is that girl?", then get pleasantly surprised by her performance because I don't know what to expect from her. I think Eon has tried that type of casting before, and it has mostly been quite successful. For example, Izabella Scorupco only starred in one obscure movie (I believe) before getting picked for GE, having been known mostly for her singing and modeling. Carole Bouquet had been in only a couple of not-too-well-known films before starring in FYEO. Claudine Auger, prior to Thunderball, was only well-known in Europe, having done a few (mostly French) films and some TV work.

So is Megan Fox another "woman of mystery"? Well, again IMO, having starred in 2 of the biggest blockbusters of recent years, as well as graced the covers of GQ, Esquire, etc... , Ms. Fox is about as mysterious as a Big Mac meal. I have nothing against Big Macs; they are quite tasty, and filling. However, if it is a Saturday night, and I'm in the mood for some culinary surprises, I won't be climbing into my car and heading toward the nearest Golden Arches.

My hope for Bond 23 is that, instead of going after a hottie du jour, the Bond producers will look for a hidden gem who will surprise and delight us.

Hot, yes; but the more I see of Megan Fox the less I like her--a mouthy, childish, spoiled brat. Still, casting her in Bond 23 wouldn't keep me from seeing it.

Megan Fox is hot don't get me wrong but she is childish, and wouldn't make a good bond. Just not a good fit

Starring opposite Daniel Craig? Seriously? She would look like his daughter. And that's the main reason for me to say hell to the no. She's definitely hot but really not someone who could be considered even for a second to star opposite DC. It takes a woman, not a girl. She could be a Bond Girl if someone much younger was Bond, say Henry Cavill. And that still wouldn't be a thrilling choice, simply because I don't think she has enough personality to portray a Bond girl. But at least she wouldn't look like Bond's daughter :)) Seriously, absolutely no with Daniel Craig and not an ideal pick in general IMO.

I thought she was great in Transformers (although, I really liked Rachael Taylor) but she is getting far too big for her own boots. She knows she's sexy, which IMO makes her less so - and this recent rumour (which her agency is now denying - they're saying she has never even be offered the role 8-) is just adding to my opinion that she need to do a bit of growing up.

I do think that Megan Fox is extremely good looking, although I don't think she's as beautiful as other people believer her to be. However I don't want her to be in a Bond film. Not because of her comments, I couldn't care less about her comments, but because her persona doesn't IMO suit Bond. How do I say it without being mean? I don't think she's 'elegant' enough. ;)

A very good point Dan. Not classy enough. Among other things, including what I believe to be the main problem though others here don't seem to be bothered by it. She really looks way too young to star opposite DC.

No way, the franchise will fall into the same trap that is did when it casted Denise Richards and Halle f***ing Berry as primary Bond girls.

If Eon and MGM want to cast American actresses than I hope that unknowns are used rather than big names. Jill St. John was still a relative newcomer to movies prior to Diamonds Are Forever, if I remember right. Megan Fox is already something of a star so I don't see her as being a Bond girl. As pointed out by Frostbitten she really does not fit the typical look of Bond girl, so she would stick out like a sore thumb.

I'm having visions of Megan Fox promoting Bond 23:

"Yeah, well, this isn't a movie about acting. I mean, I should be doing Lady Macbeth or Hedda Gabler or something, but the guys just want to see my smokin' hot bod and I guess I should satisfy their wishes. But, gawd, I can't believe people are still watching James Bond movies--I mean, they've been around, what, twenty years? Thirty? Get a life! But I should be grateful, because it was another paycheck, and, hey, I really ROCKED that bikini in that scene, didn't I? I just wish I didn't have to kiss Daniel Craig--yucko! He could be my dad! Wait, did I say being in a Bond movie isn't about acting? I should get a f---ing Oscar for being able to do that scene without hurling!"

Jill St. John only got cast because she was sleeping with one of the top people at United Artists. As it turned out she was perfect for the part, so I'm not exactly saying that I'm against this sort of practice... :v

As for Megan Fox, she is indeed too young. Look at what they did in FYEO. Even though I still think Carole Bouqet is one of the most attractive Bondgirls, she was completely mismatched with Roger Moore.

I don't think the question can be answered without knowing the script. Does the script call for for some California beach babe, then yes she wuld be perfect. Does it call for an Italian beauty, then no she couldn't play the part.

She would not be a good match opposite Craig as she is too young, although she is sexy. IMO the producers haven't cast a really sexy lead actress in a long time. Sexy goes deeper than just your looks, it includes your attitude and your presence. Sophie Marceu was sexy, as was Carey Lowell. No one was sexier than Luciana Paluzzi.

I actually sat next to Megan Fox and her boyfriend at Nobu in Malibu on Friday night. (Not trying to name drop :)). Anyway, yeah she's hot but looks like shes barely 18 years old. Way too young for a Bond girl and to go opposite DC. Not to mention her questionable acting ability....but that's never stopped a casting decision before.

I'll be the first to admit I have neither seen Megan Fox in a film, or in any acting role, and that she is probably a bit young to be Bond's love interest, and I'd hate to see her in a role like Denise Richards in TWINE, but, but, but just look at her!

:)) Yeah, that's about right for Megan these days. She really seems to enjoy sticking her foot into her admittedly pretty mouth and if she isn't careful she could easily become a pariah with big Hollywood producers. One of the golden rules of show biz, which she seems to enjoy breaking, is that you never bite the hand that feeds you.

Assuming her career doesn't implode, I don't see her as a Bond girl, especially with Craig in the lead. She is simply too young (there is a 20 year age gap) and, quite frankly, way too immature. For all her good looks, she really lacks a sense of sophistication that I personally associate with the more successful Bond girls.

On the other hand, I think she could work as a heavy (though not a lead villain) in a Bond film; something along the lines of a Fiona Volpe or Fatima Blush as she seems to enjoy playing the "bad girl". I'd kill any romantic angle though. Fox recently confessed to being equally attracted to women as well as men (she's said this so many times that its clearly more than a stab at publicity) and has confessed to even having a crush on Angelina Jolie. I could envision them as a latter day inversion of Wint and Kidd. If the producers really wanted her, something like that might make for an interesting angle.

Well be it Stacey Sutton or Christmas Jones, American Bond girls tend not to go down very well in Bond films...

That's an interesting idea. There hasn't been a good female baddie in a DC Bond film yet, so it would be good to have one in Bond 23.

I love :x Angelina Jolie, and I think that this idea sounds wonderful. I don't think that Angelina, as much as I love her, should play a Bond girl, and as I stated above, neither should Megan Fox (I think she lacks class in terms of her persona) but to have her and Angelina play a female version of Wint & Kidd would be wonderful. :D

I think casting Megan Fox in the next Bond would be "flavour of the month (year)"-casting like Denise Richards in TWINE.
She is a media phenomena more than an actress.
But I did see her in "How to loose friends & alienate peple" and i liked what I saw .....
She was sex (as can be expected), but I also saw a talent for comedy.
When wee see "Jennifer's body" (and Megan's too! :D) when it comes out and see if I am right.
