Austin Powers vs. Bond?

I used to watch Austin Powers when I was a teenager, but now I find the movies rather silly and corny if you will while enjoying Bond films a lot more (just bought the DVD for Goldeneye collectors' edition- loved that movie). Dr. Evil was a rip off of Blofeld, #2 was copied from Largo, and Austin Powers films do have more sexual content than Bond films IMO.
lol, I was just curious as Powers is based on James Bond and I wonder what Bond fans got to say.

I feel sorry for people, who are THAT serious about their hobby, that there is no room to enjoy a parody, which is imho very well done by the way.
Dalton - the weak and weepy Bond!
I liked A Powers more on video than at the cinema. Classic scenes but it never hung well together as a movie really. Only really liked the first film, then it was diminishing returns for me.
One interesting character is Basil Exposition, as it kind of highlights the way a character turns up in a film to explain to the audience exactly what is going on, some films manage this more subtly than others... in Bond it's always when he goes into M's office. 'What do you know about Moonraker 007?' That sort of thing.
Roger Moore 1927-2017
I too liked the films when they were released, but would'nt go out of my way to see one now. That overt sort of humour dates quickly as the sands of time march on. There are loads of films (usually with Burt Reynolds and some sort of car!) that I absolutely loved as a child/teenager, but cannot even sit through now...

I remember enjoying Austin Powers a lot. I still look up some scenes from it on Youtube today. Now that I watch the Bond film, I actually get the references. I like what AP did. It was a great parody but it also forced the hand of the Bond series to try something new.

That's me! I hate the way Mike Myers pops up in any Bond expose - like he's some kind of expert.I groaned when he was in the Everything or Nothing DVD. Anyway, its the easiest thing in the world to pop up and spoof it. What takes courage is to come up with another spy novel and push it for fifty years.
Austuin Powers has been seen off. Bourne has been seen off. Aren't we ready for the next "hilarious" round of spoofs about now?
And whats the bet with SPECTRE making money Mike Myers pops up with another spoof.
Jason Bourne has not been seen off just yet. Matt Damon has confirmed he is returning, the new Bourne film is scheduled for release in July 2016.
Take your pick from Kingsman: The Secret Service or Man from UNCLE...both should be decent enough films...
Matt Helm and Derek Flint ? )
Its too easy to do a spoof. What it takes is a good original idea.
The Bournes are getting less. Are we free f their Bond bashing this time or did that happen under Greengrass.
It's difficult to do a good spoof though...I guess the two films I mentioned are more 'homages' than spoofs...
Austin Powers spoofed a lot of 60s and 70s spy TV and films -- Bond, Helm, Flint, King, Avengers, etc. It works best when it pays homage.
were trying to rip off /parody the Bond films .I just see it as a spoof comedy spy film ,sorry
I, too, think the Austin Powers movies are pretty funny. In fact, I believe being such an avid Bond movie fan helps me to better appreciate just how hilarious they are. And I find that they don't detract at all from my enjoyment of the Bond films.
He def did well out of them didnt he? What was the budget and return of the first Powers movie?
And TV shows of the 60s. In fact I think Austin Powers
Has more in common with Jason King ! )

Yes, in the original film Powers namechecks "In Like Flint" - itself a Bond parody - as his favorite movie.
