Clive Owen

I watched The International last night and was impressed with Clive Owen's performance. I like Craig, but am surprised he got the gig over Owen (if Owen was ever in the runing, that is). I thought he was good in The Bourne Identity as well.
What do you think? Would he have been any good? I still don't think he would be too old after Craig's next film.

He would be nearly 50 in 2011. I think Craig was the better choice.

Clive Owen was my dream choice for Bond. I think he would have been awesome. :D Seeing Sin City convinced me that he would have been absolutely superb, and alot better than Craig (although I don't like him much anyway.) Inside Man was further evidence to me of his Bondian brilliance. He's cool, suave, tough, a great actor and knows his way around different settings (whether it be formal, romantic or violent); plus, for all those people who dislike Brosnan (which doesn't include me as he was my second favourite Bond), he's quite unlike Brosnan. Yeh, I really wish he could have played Bond. There' still time though. ;)

I read that Clive Owen was offered the role (for Casino Royale) but he knocked it back because the points (in order to receive a bonus) were too high. As it was, they hired Daniel Craig, the movie made $1billion including DVD sales, and Craig received a $1million bonus.

Croupier (1998). That is why he was ever considered for the role. Probably would have been good (albeit with some flaws).

I'm a huge Owen fan - have almost everything he's been in, and an autographed photo - and i think he would have been a great choice if he'd taken over for CR, but IMO Craig allowed them to take a more drastic change in the direction of the series than Owen would have (despite his intentions)... Owen would still have allowed them to do something more serious and brooding (like Dalton's films), but he doesn't bring the physicality to the role that Craig brings...

i'm not saying Craig was the right choice orthe wrong choice, and i'm not saying Owen would have been better or worse... things would have been interestingly different, i think, but it's hard to live in a world of "what if"s and "what might've been"s... by the time Craig's tenure is up, Owen will be too old to realistically take over for any kind of extended contract, and i doubt sincerely that they will ever have another one-off Bond actor, so there's no point in going on about something that'll never happen, IMO...

i'm quite content to sit back and watch the variety of brilliant films Owen puts out, though! i only wish he'd do more comedy and smile once in a while! :#

Well why couldn't Clive Owen star in 1 Bond film only, after Daniel Craig gives up the role?
Who knows what the acting landscape will look like in the coming years?
Perhaps EON could sign Owen for a 1 picture deal, just to bide their time for 2-3 years in order for a different, younger actor to come out of contract with another studio.
Therefore, not only could EON (possibly) replicate the cult status of OHMSS, but they would also satisfy many Clive Owen fans out there who felt cheated when he wasn't given the keys to the Aston Martin.
It's a big perhaps, but hey it could happen.

Like me. :# asio, I think this is a great idea. Although I really wish that Owen had been given the keys instead of Craig, having him do a one-off (assuming that it's a terrific film) is a creative and rather brilliant suggestion. :D

Generally speaking, I like Owen and I was thrilled when our "insider" member Pierce-B (who seems to have vanished) announced that Owen had the Bond role. However, I watched The International last night, and I think this would be the LAST film to cite as evidence of Owen's suitability to play 007. Granted, he wasn't helped by a dumb story and truly bad dialogue; but throughout the movie Owen growls, grimaces, bugs out his eyes, and spits out his words through gritted teeth--all to show how edgy he is. Frankly, I thought half his problems would have been solved by some Ex-Lax. Say what you will about QoS, Daniel Craig did a much better job of playing a man on the edge.
