    I can understand why filmmakers love HD as it does seem to make the process of directing films easier. However I have yet to see an HD film that matches the beauty of celluloid. Much as I liked Michael Mann's Public Enemies my recurring thought throughout the movie was if only he'this had been shot on film.

    Yeah, Lumet was talking about what was easier to handle instead of what is more visually pleasing.

    In terms of whether it's visually pleasing, I think it depends on the film. I haven't seen Public Enemies as of yet (don't ask :#), however I thought that Apocalypto, Collateral and Miami Vice all looked stunning.

    This is a definite gut punch. Sidney Lumet is one of the greatest living filmmakers. HD is the death of the art form. Point and shoot is the way of the future.
    Thank God HD wasn't around in 1965 during the making of The Hill. (stunningly bleak B&W cinematography)

    I LOVE The Hill, it's my favorite Connery flick. No, it just wouldn't look right in HD.
