Westerns, thrillers, comedies, romances; he was extraordinarily versatile.
Yes he was in a variety of films but I still don't think he was versatile.
He played different roles in these films (and not always the hero), so I think he was extremely versatile.
"He’s a man way out there in the blue, riding on a smile and a shoeshine. And when they start not smiling back—that’s an earthquake. and then you get yourself a couple of spots on your hat, and you’re finished. Nobody dast blame this man. A salesman is got to dream, boy. It comes with the territory." Death of a Salesman
I think he is fantastic and never fails to impress me. His performances in Wall Street, Wonderboys and Falling Down were IMO electrifying.
I agree. I still think he is a great actor regardless of if I compare him to Kirk.
Yeh, he's fantastic.

{:) Hard hats on for this one. Bring Back David Niven {:) )
Evan I do know Christian Bale is "English", but I still don't trust him to act like an English SIS agent.... I fear it'd all be a bit Bruce Wayne Mind you I have been wrong in the past.
Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much.

If DC does his 4 and then steps down that should be in about 6 years time that is if 23 comes out in 2011, 24 in 2013 and then a 2 year gap for 25. well I was thinking what about Rupert Penry-Jones to take over he is currently 38 but looks 28 and so will be 44.
RM was 45 when he took over the role yet looked imo younger thanSCdid in Dr No.
Also I take it Bond 25 will not be another Bond begins so it does not have to be someone really young[although that concept went out the window with CR].
Ruperts portrayel of Hanney in the 39 steps imo was very Bondian and as Carter in Spooks, well more Bondian than a lot of the past actors who have played Bond.

The thing about Bale is that he has played such a variety of roles to a very high standard. He would relish the challenge of Bond and is clearly a better actor than most other immediate candidates.

I see Bond character as charming but always with an underline brutally. That one long scene at the pub in Barterds, Fassbender shown charm, wit, and brute -- all that while sitting at the table. The key to playing Bond is not so much the action scenes. It's the conversational scene that makes the character. That's what so disappointing about Quantum. Mostly action filled scenes that doesn't give Craig a chance to be Bond but just another action hero.

Btw, I don't like Craig as Bond.
Watched the Inglourious last night funnily enough, and Michael Fassbender is an inspired choice from the thread starter I think. How good would he work if it was reset to the 50's?
But would he be great in 2015 though?
Dont wait for your ship to come in. Swim out and meet the bloody thing.

I had thought about that too. He would have to tone down the 'Monty' English military style verbiage, but I'm pretty sure he has 'it'
I watched The Thirty Nine Steps last night - it was a BBC made for tv version, but I was impressed with Rupert Penry-Jones who took the lead role. He was very good in Spooks as well.

Yes he was and I think he really could be Bond I know he would be 45 but so was Rog when he took up the mantle and imo he looked younger than Sean did in Dr No. Also I would be happy with either Henry Cavill or Clive Standen.
I always liked Adrian Paul for the role because he looked so much like Connery. Billy Crudup would work if he could do an English accent(unless the purists insist he was born in the UK).

Christian Bale is English, so english would be ok to him. We could always get sir Roger back......
James Bond- Licence To Kill
That old fuddy duddy ? Bah ! We need youth ! Connery is 79 years young.

True, he has the presence.
On a different note, how bad was Mike Myers? Awful.
lol I was expecting him to tore off the makeup and do an Austin Powers song and dance in one continuous shot.:))
