Personally it works with the film. As a one of (like Lazenby!) it was great. Who wote it?

John Barry; it's considered one of his best.

An absolute classic. No Bond mix-disc is complete without it B-)

I knew it was Barry. The music is better than the film!

It stands on its own just as much as the Bond theme.

2002-2009? 9-2 = 7 or is it one of those things where it doesn't work like that, like the train ticket that runs out the day before?

A timeless classic! What a great theme song! I think it probably would have been less effective with lyrics, but I can't be sure since I've never heard it as anything other than an instrumental. Still, I think it absolutely works as an instrumental song.
