Actually, you have a quite pleasant, light-sounding voice tone... you sound younger than your years.

Well, thanks! But I think that's because my voice never changed during puberty ;%
A face for radio too! :D

    Guilty as charged! -{

I don't think so...but he DID think I was from Jacksonville---don't know where THAT came from, LOL...and he did a great job with the last name, so I couldn't complain if he messed up 'Mark' :)) Regardless, a prince of a guy. Actually bought the book on Amazon.com, instead of holding out for a free one. Helluva guy.

dunno if it's a marketing thing Amazon does, but I keep seeing "ONE COPY LEFT! GET IT NOW!" next to the book description...

^I just went and checked. I also notice the used copies are priced higher than the new copies. Interesting.
Some people would complain even if you hang them with a new rope
  • LoeffelholzLoeffelholz The United States, With LovePosts: 8,998Quartermasters
My understanding is that sites like Amazon will use the "only one copy left!" as a fairly common ploy...and it seems that smaller 'mom and pop'-type operations will pick up a couple of copies and keep them on hand, just in case. But the beauty of publishing independently is that we never "run out" of books...it's just possibly a couple extra days whilst we print some more ;)

But I don't mind the sense of urgency created, there---please order a copy now! I'm trying to get the hell out of my day job, for crying out loud :)

Been without internet access for a few days X-( - but logged on quickly with a mate's laptop to say I'd finished the book. :D

Really impressed with the whole book. I can't say enough good things about it. The characters simply live and breathe on the page, there were no flat spots, no parts of the book where the reader was filled with information they didn't need. To anyone reading this post Mark Leoffelholz is a quality writer, utterly flawless in his execution of bringing a a thumping good read to life, writes very much in the Ian Fleming vein, but with his own sense of style that is utterly intoxicating. I am actually sad that I will have to wait most probably a long while to read the next installment of what has been one of the best works of popular fiction I have ever read.

Loeffs - thanks for Oscar Jade, and make sure you get your arse back in the typing seat very soon... :D

tsa...I'm humbled. Thanks very much for your kind words. Some time back you told me that after the hype, "it had better be good." I take that sort of thing to heart, so I'm naturally gratified that you had a good time. And don't worry, I'm nearly ready to start banging the keys again :D

    EDIT: PS---please tell all your non-AJB friends...thanks!

Are you familiar with the Murder on the Hellweg festival, Loeffs? It's in the Ruhr every two years, it's in October and Nov this year I think.

Of course, you'd have to bring someone who understands the language. :D

You know, Loeff it would be cool if you had the opportunity to pitch your character to someone like Stephen J. Cannell's production company for a television show. Jade, as a character is right up his alley in writing a pilot seeing he used to do The Rockford Files and the like.

Although you might not be too comfortable having too many chefs in the kitchen, it would be a great stepping stone in your literary career if it came to fruition. Not to mention the insane royalties you would earn. Just a thought. ;)

Not a bad idea, Rogue---I've got a producer buddy shopping it around to film studios right now...TV is always another option...be a good HBO/Showtime series too, IMO...

Like a better version of Mike Hammer. I can see Oscar working well on tv, but filming a forties Miami Beach would be a nightmare (but not impossible - obviously). Especially as it looks now...

A lot of CGI filler in the backgrounds to mask non-'period' objects...but it can certainly be done. As long as we're dreaming long shots, I'd like a feature film :)

Ah, yes, Showtime would be the way to go since HBO is trying to supplement their subscribers' Sopranos thirst with this Boardwalk Empire series starting up.

As secretagent said, Miami Beach wouldn't be terribly expensive to shoot a 12-ep cable series at all I would think. Just wear your Cheap Trick tee when you do the commentary and interviews on the dvd set...but keep the beard. Makes you look like you've been doing this awhile. :D

Another book signing scheduled in Quincy, Illinois---about 2 hours away by car---where I understand I'm being read by a mystery book club...I thought getting radio time and newspaper space in my hometown was a challenge! :#

What are the chances of doing a book-signing/Q&A at your local Barnes and Noble? I see my local shops doing that for regional authors quite frequently...but I'm not sure how much of that is arranged locally. If you do it, you have to make sure you get a modest group of friends to 'salt' the crowd. I once read that Bernard Cornwell doesn't do book-signings anymore because he found it 'humiliating' (in regard to the lack of interest).

I've had ten years to get over this, so I can laugh about it now - just. I had a signing for my novel at my local WH Smith. Great. Bigtime. I had my pens, best suit, briefcase. Beside me was the stack of books the store had provided. Across from me, the other side of the store, and doing his book signing for Single & Single was a certain John Le Carre... He was also signing copies of everything from The Tailor of Panama to oh, just about everything he's ever written. X-(
    I signed four books. :#
