DAD = Underrated (SPOILERS)

Okay there are much better Bond films than DAD but there are plenty of action scenes, notably the chase through Korea at the beginning, the chase at the Ice Fortress, the showdown on the airplane and even Bond's desperate attempt to get a plummeting helicopter running. But yes I do agree that Berry was a terrible choice for a Bond girl and that Brosnan was getting kind of old at the time of filming. But still much better shape than Moore being 57 at the time of AVTAK's filming.

I really quite like much of DAD. I know I'm in the minority, but in my mind you're either a sheep or a wolf...

I don't think DAD was as bad as some of my fellow Bond fans think it was, but it was certainly the weakest of the Brosnan films. I do agree that there were some decent action scenes (especially the PTS and the fencing match), and although Halle Berry had some pretty lame lines (and very poorly delivered), she wasn't any worse than a number of other Bond girls (Tanya Roberts and Denise Richards in particular). Plus, in my opinion, watching Ms. Berry emerge from the ocean in her orange bikini made up for a lot of film's other shortcomings.

Well today we laugh at how stupid everything looked in the 1980s, from sports uniforms (notably the Phillies and White Sox of the USA's Major League Baseball) to cars ("boxy" style design) to video games, etc. But for the time Tanya Roberts looked mighty fine like any other star from the time period. And she still looks attractive today. Halle Berry, on the other hand, was 35 years old at the time DAD was filmed, and she never really was that attractive to being with. Angelina Jolie, 26 at the time of filming, would have been a much better choice. Actually, I find Denise Richards perhaps the hottest bond girl, maybe some don't like her because she is too American and doesn't have any foreign personality that others have (say Camille in QOS).

I actually quite like the first half of the film. Surfing aside, I loved the pre-title sequence (especially Will Yun-Lee, who far surpassed the actor playing Graves as a villain). The Hong Kong stuff was great, as was the Cuba scenes (excluding Halle Berry). The way I see it was that DAD had a fully formed plot that was quite good, but derailed into another fully formed, but terrible movie afterword (in contrast, QoS had a good plot, but was skeletal at best so all the ideas were never fully explored).

If it had stayed the way the first half was (with Bond on his own looking for the person who set him up), it would have been insanely entertaining, and definitely better than TND and maybe TWINE.

Halle Berry was "never really that attractive to being [sic] with"? Oh well - I guess blind folks go to Bond films too!

I love Halle Berry. :x IMO she's one of the world's three or four most beautiful women. I was recently watching the end of Catwoman and I was yet again struck by her beauty. However I didn't love her in DAD. Partly because I hated her character, but also, because I prefer her with long hair. I know I'm the only person who has this view, everyone I know prefer her with short hair and a former member of this site once accused me of racism as I have no problem with Carey Lowell sporting short hair, :v :)) but I really do believe that, with long hair, Halle is the epitome of female beauty. :x

Long hair or short, to say that Halle Berry wasn't attractive in DAD (we're talking looks only) is a pretty incredible statement if you ask me. To each his own, I guess, but I am really blown away by Barbel's statement!

Since it was Railer 505 who questioned Halle's beauty, why does Barbel need to get his eyes checked? ?:) Unless, Blackleiter, you agree with Railer 505 in his criticism of Halle's looks?

She may have had some questionable lines, but come on... Any man who critisises her looks must be so unrealistic that I wouldn't mind betting they're sleeping alone tonight...

You're right. My apologies to Barbel. My comments should have been directed to Railer 505 who I understand is undergoing eye surgery at this very moment. I hope the surgery is successful, Railer 505. Then you can check out Ms. Berry's lovely form in DAD again and see what you have been missing.

DAD (DUD) has its moments but overall it's abysmal. & I don't find Halle Berry attractive in the slightest either. Even with my glasses on.

Halle Berry is beautiful. Long or short tresses it makes no difference to me.

There are some cool Bond scenes, (fencing, peaceful mountains, er, fountains!, and such.) I thought the PTS was great too.

Doesn't matter. There is clearly something wrong with you that even glasses couldn't correct!

Agreed. The first half is good enough to even survive Halle Berry and John Cleese, but once we get to the Ice Hotel it a long slide down to disapointment.

Die Another Day is awesome. action packed folks.

    My 4th favorite Bond film.
    2nd best Brosnan film.
    Beginning is incredible.
    Zao is a beast.

If you can look past a couple crazy things that happen; it is very entertaining.
