    sharp eye indeed Ed.

ok i am willing to bet these are a 60's product tie in like the bond shoes and trenchcoats etc, bath towels, and bedding etc aftershave etc

the OO7 logo looks similar to the font etc used on the OO7 swim wear of the 60's watch your THUNDERBALL phenomenon feature on your DVD and you will see what i mean

    hope this helps

looks like they are indeed an 007-tie in as SGG says, made by Weldon, the 1960's pajama makers..

    http://www.adclassix.com/a3/51weldonpajamas.htm

There's a refernce to them in the MI6 article on toys etc from the 60's

    http://www.mi6.co.uk/sections/articles/history_press_bond_merchandise.php3

"In May, Revere Knitting Mills will bring out knit shirts with the numerals 007 embroidered on them. Spatz Bros, of New York is making a new 007 trench-coat with secret pockets, throws a plastic Beretta into the bargain. Weldon Manufacturing is planning his and hers pajamas with secret pockets, and Harry Diamond Corp. is making 007 swimsuits and sports shirts. "

    secret pockets.... :o

BTW I think Ed's pic proves they suit you DZ.... B-)

And Ed, were you the original Weldon model?...

Thank you, ke02eww!!! Great info and just what I was looking for...yes there are two secret pockets in the pajamas..one in the sleeve that is knife shaped and another one that now holds what's left of my self respect. The second is a very, very small pocket. ;%

The color shifts a bit from pic to pic in the original post but would it be fair to call the PJs "maroon"?

If so, I have news (good, bad, or simply disturbing): I own the matching "trench coat" robe.
  • The Bond ExperienceThe Bond Experience Newtown, PAPosts: 5,490Quartermasters
LOL!!! It is most certainly a maroon! And I love the fact that we book-end the contry AND this sleepwear set.

Here's a pic of the Weldon "trench coat" (have other views if anyone needs 'em) along with a blurb from the Thunderball pressbook regarding their 007 line.

    weldonrobefront3qtrsml.th.jpg weldontbpressbook.th.jpg *
Click on either thumbnail to be taken to a larger image.

As with many other products, the Bond clothing craze pretty much peaked with Thunderball; there were licenses granted throughout Europe, South America, Japan, and elsewhere.

In North America alone we had Noveltex, Spatz Bros., Haband, Trimount, Revere, Allison, Harry Diamond, Hush Puppy, Adler, Endicott Johnson ... and those are just the ones I can recall off the top of my head!

Not all of these were marked "Bond" or "007" as some makers were simply promoting the fact that Connery wore their stuff on-screen. There were also companies like London Fog, Bond Suits, and so on that weren't connected to the franchise in any way but benefited vicariously by playing-up the genre in their advertising.

A great source for ads for any of these brands are "men's magazines" (Playboy especially, and the movie tie-in issues in particular) circa 65/66.

I've been collecting this stuff for years ... finding the vintage notion of the "James Bond lifestyle" far more interesting than today's mindset: The ad campaigns for this stuff were so utterly outrageous ("Buy this hair tonic and you WILL BE James Bond!") or downright offensive ("Gives you a license to kill ... women!") that you wonder how they ever got approved ... even decades before "politically incorrect" came into vogue.

*The press book was scanned at 300 dpi for those who might want to print; as a result, the image loads slowly.

Great info TMFB. I happen to have the U.S. pressbook for Thunderball. Pressbooks are great for understanding how the Bond movies were marketed particularly in their heyday.

Hey Thierry, how are you doing?

One day i will get all the vintage stuff together and photograph it as its quite bizarre how the marketing people think that putting 007 on something will equal great sales!

History shows that it really does not.

It is quite at odds with say this website and others where people now actively look for clothes to dress like 007. The major difference is they are looking for the same items "as worn by" opposed to say a garment with "James Bond" sewed into the label.

I have a collection of 007 socks but for some reason no underwear, I would have thought that "secret pants" would have sold like a million pairs!

    regards

    Hi Nick

i'm doing OK, had to slow down a lil' bit on the collection in the last few months due to the recession, but still managed to ad good bits and pieces to the collection .

really looking forward to this .

i suppose Corgi Toys are the ones who had the biggest success .
you can also blame my parents for not buying any 007 toys when i was a child in the sixties, i had the batmobile, the monkeemobile a dakatri set and a Beatles guitar ... all tv series that were shown on tv in Belgium at the time, but never had any 007 toys . I have a good childhood memory and the only item i still remember clearly in the local toy shop is the Gold Aston Martin Corgi .

my theory is that JB did not wear underpants, no time to waste when he met his female partners, a quickie and time to go again ;), being continental and also spending a fair amount of time with my french neighbours, they have this rumour going around that english men do not take their socks off while having sex ... this could be the answer to the problem :)) :)) :))
