Goldeneye Car plate?

Hello,

Maybe you don't remember, but in Goldeneye, James Bond says to the bad girl that the plate of this year began with «L», even the fakes one...

What does that mean? That her car plate is a fake?

Oh, and I am a little ashamed to ask that, but I never understood why Alec was pissed at James setting the timer for 3 minutes instead of 6 since the General already shot him...

And how could he survive that, that's another question...

Sorry and thanks

I can't answer the car question, but the Alec question I can answer. Orumov and Alec had a pre-arraigned deal: fake Alec's death and escape, setting up the Janus crime syndicate. So the bullet that Alec was shot with was probably a blank (although that pistol then fires a bunch of live rounds, soo...), and Alec had a squib or something on him to fake his injury.

James, seeing the plan get botched, changed the timer for the bombs from 6 minutes to 3 minutes. Alec thought he had 6 minutes to escape, when in fact he had half that. So, he was not able to get away unscathed, and half of his face was burned. How Orumov escaped unscathed, no idea.

Well, Orumov did run outside and watched Bond run toward the plane. I'd assume he didn't go back inside.

Yep, as you assume in your question, toutbrun, Xenia's car plate was fake, and badly done at that, as it was easily spotted. That also goes to show Bond's eye for detail (and knack for multi-tasking: he was seducing his psychiatrist, flirting with the hot girl in the Ferrari, noticing the car was that year's model and taking note of the license plate. Oh, and high speed driving).

As for Alec's being pissed, Infernorhythm and Mr Martini have nailed it. I even believe there was no injury to begin with (not even a fake one): Ourumov's blank shooting was far off from Bond's pov, so all he had to do was lie still and fool everyone. As he was "dead", he shouldn't appear in pursuit, so he stayed warm and cozy in the facility. A little too warm once the detonators went off...

BUT, since he was with the wrong side from the begining, he shouldn't be pissed at James, saying that he went for the mission instead of his friend, because he thought he was dead and Alec is the one that betrayed him..

You're right there, toutbrun. But it's baddie logic, no one says it has to make sense.

Alec later says something to the tune of "I considered inviting you, but knew you wouldn't see it my way". So, in his mind's eye, Alec saw Bond as his naive and too loyal friend, but MI6 and England as his enemies.

I don't recall exactly if Bond changed the timer before or after Alec being shot, but in any case the second thought he had 6 minutes, and saw the explosion and his disfigurement as another treason from people he trusted (even if he himself was not to be trusted...). You can tell from later scenes that, despite mocking 007, he sort of looked up to him, as per his trying to mimic/best him (i.e., Natalya, etc).
