Ian Fleming On Set Including Goldfinger

Well I found these stills with Ian Fleming on the sets of the first three James Bond films. I suppose I had forgotten the ones showing Fleming with Sean Connery and Shirly Eaton (The Golden Girl) on the set of Goldfinger. Sadly Fleming never got to see Goldfinger or Bond mania. The very first picture is from the set of Dr. No and it and some others are common and well known. The second two are not that common and show Connery and Fleming on the set of FRWL. The second of these two are on location and you can see the truck in the background that Bond carries Tanya in after departing the Orient Express. The last two show Connery, Eaton and Fleming on what appears to be the Miami pool set of Goldfinger.
Enjoy.

Yeah, that's the one shot I'd never seen before.

Though considering Fleming original thought of Connery as an unsuitable lorry driver who'd been chosen to play James Bond, I wonder if he ever suggested to Sean he might want to shift it for him:)

Wait a minute: in FRWL Connery-Bond does drive the truck:o

Yes, he is actually a miniature Bull Terrier, but I grew up with two standard ones. He's about to turn 12 this month. I got him as a puppy when I quit sailing in the Merchant Marine. He's a very good dog and very good with my children.

Always a pleasure to see pictures of Fleming - whose genius started it all!

Fleming seems to be thawing as time goes on in those pictures, the first one in Dr No has him with his 'Connery is a truck driver' attitude but in fairness the later Connery has more of the polished Bond look and Fleming seems almost ingratiating, no doubt mindful of Connery's success in the role by that point.

I love the picture of Connery and Fleming, with Connery in the white shirt, scratching his arm. The eyes say it all - it's like Conery is 'recalling' something - telling Fleming something, with the involuntry defence of protecting yourself by crossing your body with your arm - and the obvious interest with Fleming's direct and intense eye contact.... I wonder what they were talking about.

    Thanks for sharing DG :)

    Quite agree.

While I'm not one of those who think the Bond films could only have succeeded with Connery, I certainly believe that by FRWL he had got the Fleming character down pat.

Yes, he does have that look doesn't he? They are an interesting breed and said to have a keen sense of humor. One day I hope to breed them myself.
