I think the first half of DAD is excellent, including the sword fight, but the second half goes down hill for reasons mentioned previously. However, I did enjoy the Moneypenny virtual reality scene at the end. of the film.

I watched a chunk of it on DVD last night, from the Hong Kong masseuse to meeting the Cuban sleeper agent. Quite nice, I liked the way the camera was positioned and the colourful cinematography. But it got stuff wrong: the sound was a bit muffled so some of the witty lines ("If you meet Zao, say goodbye from me!") were hard to pick up on, though not as bad as at the cinema. I could hardly hear what the sleeper agent was saying.

Worse, Brosnan seemed really quite knackered out, and not because he's spent a year or so in a Korean jail. His whole body language was that of a loser, so it was hard to equate with Frost's description of him as 'a wild one' - a rather naff, or badly acted speech. His age seemed to fluctuate too, looking quite middle aged on his return to see M, but as youthful as any point since GE when he's clambering out of Graves' hanging ice racer.

I certainly didn't like it. It's definitely my least favorite Bond film. It's just a mess of a film. I still own it, mind you, but it's the lowest point in the series for me.

That said, I do understand why some people still like it. There's a lot of cheap fun to be had in it, as long as you don't try to take it seriously (even for a Bond film).

Lowest point? Have you seen Moonraker? :))

Moonraker has moments where it sinks lower than individual moments in DAD, but on the whole DAD was a much worse picture than Moonraker. In my opinion, of course. I actually didn't mind the majority of Moonraker.

If it wasn't for all the absurdity that ensues in the latter portions of Moonraker (again, even by Bond standards), it would be a decent movie. Still by no means would it be one of the better Bonds, but not altogether terrible.

With DAD I can really only say I found the first half hour to be of any real quality. It started out okay, but took a nosedive in a hurry.

When I watched DAD at the cinema I thought I was about to see something really special. The whole pre-title sequence, title sequence and first 45 minutes were great - then it just sort of snowballed into oblivion. I think they wanted to make the twentieth Bond some sort of homage to the series, but it failed and the nods to the past were painfully executed. Not Brozzer's fault, he only had the script he was given and the direction he was pointed in.

I am a HUGE Aston martin fan....so any sequence with the Vanquish I liked!

*I did think the Digital Effects were horrible....ie. Bond surfing with his parachute. And I think Hally Berry has ZERO talent...worst Bond girl ever.

I'm with you on the Vanquish - Brosnan's best supporting star in that film!
