Would have thought the Costume Cards with swatches of the Green Party and London ties should make those straightforward, no?

Here are pictures, with style numbers, of swatches that I received from Holden that he received from his Tom Ford contact at Harrod's:

I wonder how sure the contact is about those ties. I own a slightly different PTS and and Bolivia tie.

Also, on a related point. I am assuming every signed up here wants the EXACT ties and would not accept ties even if only slightly off, not noticeable at a distance over 3 feet. If any of these ties are out of stock, I will PM those signed up for the tie and see if you would still like an extremely close substitute.

    Redsleighdown,

sruzgar, richi717, and ke02eww have the Champagne Tie. Maybe they can provide the style numbers of their ties for comparison?

DBS and I both have the same tie (no dark squares)
Sruzgar and Holden's swatch are the same tie (dark squares)

I will check with Rich and Paul. The dilemma is similar to the Prada belt buckle. What we first thought was black enamel on the side ended up only being a shadow. Same thing here.

Version 1 (no dark squares, see bottom right of pic):
    Champagnetie.jpg

Version 2 (sorry for different lighting, I believe the tan shades are the same in both ties):

    Screen grabs:
    QoSSuit3.jpg
    QoSTie3.jpg

    Same thing with PTS tie.
Monza and I have an all blue version:
    DSC01672.jpg

    against Holden's swatch:

    Movie screen:

    Looks like shadows to me.

I have both versions of the tie. Here are the pics. Not the best lighting but I'm heading in for work in a few.

Nice, thanks. I used to have them both but never got around to taking some side-by-sides. As I said, they are so damn close in color!! Which one is right?!

I think the one with the darker squares is the correct Bolivia tie. You are right though, they are very close.

What are the respective style numbers for the two? Do you know for sure which one is the good one?

For once I'd like to see an Aston Martin on the road without 007 on the license plates. =D

Nah, in Quebec we can't choose a specific name or number on our plates. You're lucky, shut the **** up.

EDIT: I mean, respectfully, that is ;)

Looking at the Blu-ray of QOS, I tend to agree with richi717, that the one with the dark squares is the correct tie. If you look at time codes 52:44, 54:20, and 54:45, the tie is visible in bright light, and by my eye at least, you can see the dark squares clearly. I don't have any way to produce Blu-ray screen caps unfortunately, but maybe someone else can to confirm.

Please see the thread 'QOS Kasan tie number' for the correct black tie number. Please note that there is a dark brown version of this tie. I have both and looking at the film, well, somtimes the tie does seem to have a brownish sheen to it...but black is the safest bet I think.

    Good Luck.

I'm not so sure about the dark squares. I just saw at the TF Boutique in Needless Markup what I think is the exact same fabric as the tie on the left in two different colors, and both were merely reflective to create the illusion of of lighter and darker micro squares. This is tough (!) but I'll go with the consensus. ?:)

Slightly off-topic, but does anyone know how well Magnoli's replica of the La Paz "champagne" tie matches the real Tom Ford one, & which "version" of the tie Magnoli's is closer to in terms of colour?
  • richi717richi717 Posts: 124MI6 Agent
Magnoli's bolivia tie does not match the two tom ford ties I own. Pattern is wrong. Purchased it to compare.
  • urhashurhash USPosts: 986MI6 Agent
I think in the future it would be good if Magnoli could list (or the information were somehow available) who commissioned the tie and where he replicated the pattern from (original tie, swatch, high res scan, blurry pic, etc). Details are everything.

That's a shame. Would you be able to post a comparison pic of the ties?

As an owner of both the TF & Magnoli ties, do you think Magnoli's inaccuracies are minor enough to still warrant a purchase? I've loved that tie ever since I first saw the movie, but there is absolutely no way I can afford the genuine Tom Ford one. Magnoli is my best connection to Bond style. As an owner of both the original & replica ties, I'd love to hear your opinion.
  • richi717richi717 Posts: 124MI6 Agent
I no longer have magnoli's tie, I sold it on eBay awhile back. The squares are too large and the color did not seem to go well w my brown nailshead suit. Unlike both of the tom ford ties I own which go perfect with it. I'm not saying not to purchase his version...just letting you know.
  • redsleighdownredsleighdown USAPosts: 450MI6 Agent
so the only one I'm still not set on is the PTS tie, anyone have a confirmation of whether it is all blue or blue and black?

I've been saying this like a million times. This particular tie looks nothing like the TF one. The pattern is wrong, the colors are wrong and the silk looking texture is SO wrong.

It's obvious that is wasn't made from a swatch.

Its been a few days since I've heard the status on this? Where are we? Did I miss a request for payment?
  • toutbruntoutbrun Washington, USAPosts: 1,501MI6 Agent
I don't think you'll have to pay for another 2 months.

DBS and I both have the same tie (no dark squares)
Sruzgar and Holden's swatch are the same tie (dark squares)

    RSD,

The tie I received from Luxties is the version with the dark squares. From the stock photo on their site, it looked to be the non-dark square version, but alas, the tie that arrived does match the Version 2 tie that Sruzgar and Holden have in the photo above. The TF number on the barcode sticker that's on the bag is TFB60 1TK D ITA 082. Hope this info helps in clarifying which tie is which.

    Kind regards,
    Craig

Nope, I will make sure everyone knows when payment is due

I hope it doesn't take that long! They will be checking material availability this week. I would hope to have ties start to arrive in about 2 months.

Great thanks, this actually helps immensely. I believe Holden's swatch is the correct tie (TFB65). This is version 3! I haven't seen any ties that I am absolutely convinced it the correct one although Richi and Sruzgar may have the correct ones. Version 2 and 3 are very similar, both having dark brown squares.
