(This is a per-decade ranking of the order in which I currently most enjoy viewing them - not necessarily an assessment of their relative merits as movies.)
Critics and material I don't need. I haven't changed my act in 53 years.
I just got through watching each Bond movie twice so they are all very fresh in my mind to make this list. Watching them back to back is the best way to make a list. Sometimes you might believe a certain movie was actually better than it really is when compared to the others based on your memory. When you actually go back and watch all the movies compared to the others you might change your mind in ranking them. Here is my list by decade:
60s
1. You Only Live Twice
2. Thunderball
3. Goldfinger
4. Dr. No
5. From Russia With Love
6. On Her Majesty's Secret Service (worst Bond film of all time)
70s
1. Man With The Golden Gun
2. Spy Who Loved Me
3. Moonraker
4. Live and Let Die
5. Diamonds Are Forever (second worst Bond film of all time)
80s
1. Living Daylights
2. License To Kill
3. Ocotopussy
4. View To A Kill
5. For Your Eyes Only
90s
1. Tomorrow Never Dies (best Bond film ever)
2. World Is Not Enough
3. Goldeneye
00s
1. Quantum of Solace
2. Die Another Day
3. Casino Royal
Why on earth is TND the best Bond film ever? Some of those choices are a bit odd. Sure you haven't gone Bond-blind through overviewing?
I just really enjoy TND every time I watch it. The plot is strong and I believe that it's Brosnan's best Bond film. I really liked Jonathan Pryce as the villain. It's just a really watchable movie. I really loved the remote controlled car too. Lots of enjoyable scenes in that movie.
Seeing every movie twice lately has gotten me a little Bond obsessed. But it has really helped me to determine which ones are better than the others. These are just my personal favorites though. But, movies that I thought were decent a long time ago, like Octopussy, are actually far worse when I went back and watched them all again. And, some movies, like Moonraker and Spy Who Loved Me, that I originally thought were not very good actually turned out to be pretty good after they grew on me.
Thing is, there's ranking the films and those I find most enjoyable, the latter varying acc to my mood. Like DAF is most enjoyable of 1970s - or MR - but rationally I know that TSWLM is better and the one I'd suggest to others. Likewise, NSNA is drek but I would rate it more enjoyable on repeat viewing that LTK, which I enjoyed more on its first viewing.
EDIT That wasn't in reply to you Cavador. Anyway, guess TND flows alright but a bit low key really, prefer the Hamburg bits.
Seriously, I would like to know why people here believe On Her Majesty's Secret Service is the best Bond film of the 60s. Is this based on memory? Has anyone really watched this movie in a while? I truly believe that this is really the worst Bond film of all time. I have gone back and watched all the Bond films very recently and there is no doubt about it, OHMSS is an awful, awful movie in my opinion. Just wondering what the thought process is here with voting this one the best all time James Bond movie of the 60s.
George Lazenby as Sir Hilary in a kilt ?
The secretive allergy research facility?
Bond gets married and then she is brutally murdered?
It's pretty close to the Book, and IMHO Captures the atmosphere of the story
Cinematography is excellent as is J Barry's score
We see Bond as more Human, less the superman of YOLT
The casting is great, I personaly Love T Savalas as Bolfeld, & Ilse Steppat as Irma Bunt
It moves along at a pace, and has a fantastic ski chase
These are just some of my reasons for Loving the Film, I'm one of those who'd put it top of the list. But movies are a personal thing, others can hate it. For instance some here hold QOS up as a new benchmark for the series and can rave about the exciting editing, cast etc. Yet I hate it and simply can't see what their going on about. But like I said there is no right answer to what would be the Best Bond film, only what is your favorite.
And that's what leads to all the heated discussions here at AJB, Some Hate Sir Roger others hate D Craig and so on, It's all good fun. -{
"I've been informed that there ARE a couple of QAnon supporters who are fairly regular posters in AJB."
Hi Thunderpussy, I agree Bond movies are somewhat of a personal thing when it comes to rating them as which ones are better than others. That's kind of what I was thinking as to why some people claim OHMSS to be better than what I consider it to be. I've never read the book. I would rather watch a Bond movie than read a Bond book. As a movie not compared to the book, I will never understand why anyone would like OHMSS over Sean Connery.
I don't think I'm any judge of acting because I can't see anything wrong with Lazenby, OHMSS is in my opinion the last Great Bond of the 60's harking back to the likes of FRWL,Dr No. Very little gadgets, the villains lair on a smaller scale than the over the top volcano from YOLT, Before the much lighter touch of more humor and gadgets really took off with DAF ( which I like but for all sorts of different reasons ).
OHMSS might be an aquired taste thing,I remember when I first saw it I didn't like it at all thought it was very slow compared to what was on the cinema at the time ( spy/ moonraker ) But as I've matured I've come to love the Film,Mabey it has a more adult take on Bond which at the time I couldn't see all I wanted was explosions, chases and stunts. Where as OHMSS is more story Driven
The books are a great read,a little dated now and I havent read a Fleming in years.I'm in to more modern thrillers now. But if you come across one in a 2nd hand book shop Give it a go. But I understand what you mean about movies,Many times I stick a Bond on and Skip through to all my favorite scenes. I do agree Sir Sean was better than Lazenby,But somehow I can't see Connery breaking down at the end over his dead wife, yet with Lazenby it works ( for me at least ) I always think Of OHMSS as a stand alone Bond adventure almost as if he was a young agent starting out ( In the novel he was feeling jaded) almost like CR. if that makes any sence to anyone but me. )
"I've been informed that there ARE a couple of QAnon supporters who are fairly regular posters in AJB."
The 60s have to be my favorite decade, closely followed by the 80s.

Flattery will get you nowhere, but don't stop trying.
I just finished reading an autobiography by Adam West (from the 1960's Batman show). Did everyone here know that Adam West almost got the part for Bond in On Her Majesty's Secret Service? Wouldn't that have been strange? He turned it down because he felt that the part of Bond should naturally go to an Englishman.

I'd heard about West being approached for Bond, I didn't know it was for OHMSS though. And if you think that's weird, apparently Burt Reynolds was sort-of considered for 007 in the 1960s. James Bond vs. Blofeld T. Justice, anyone?
According to the DVD extras, Josh Brolin screen tested for 007 in AVTAK. Wonder what it would've been like to see him against Christopher Walken...
Errr, aren't you confusing him with JAMES Brolin, his father, who screen tested for FYEO? (The scene is even on THAT DVD.) According to IMDb, Josh was born in 1968, which would have made him 16 when AVTAK started filming in 1984. . .
