The tsunami thing in DAD was sort of reminiscent of the tank from GE

In Die Another Day you eventually see Bond hanging five off of a tsunami. But GoldenEye has a similar scene, you eventually see James Bond chasing down General Ourumov in Saint Petersburg and instead of driving a car 007 is seen driving a cumbersome tank. There's not much of a difference between the two scenes because you see Bond doing something ridiculous either way.
"I admire your courage, Miss?..." "Trench, Sylvia Trench."

"I admire your luck, Mister?..." "Bond, James Bond."

But I suppose even GoldenEye was a bit more grounded than Die Another Day.

I can't really see the similarity in your observation. The tank scene was well shot and laden with stunts, and considering the tank's lack of manouvrebility and speed, made for a good chase with Oramov's car. Besides, Bond had already had a great car scene with Xenia at the beggining of the film. Another car chase would have been lazy film making, so the tank works really well (for me at least). In comparison, DAD's kite-surfing tsunami scene was a load of CGI rubbish from start to finish. I know Bond often does the impossible, but in this case it's simply too implausible.

I think a more apt comparison would be with the speedboat chase in TWINE, complete with underwater tie-adjusting...
