Non-Bond Movies and TV for the Bond Fan

00Null00Null Posts: 7MI6 Agent
What does the JB fan watch during the 2 - 5 years between movies (besides conducting frame by frame analysis of the movies themselves)? That's my question so to get it started, I've listed some obvious non-Bond movies and TV for the Bond fan and I'm hoping others will contribute so I know what to watch.

Actiony
Mission Impossible movies
Bourne movies
The Saint
Sniper
National Treasure movies

Thrillers
The Thomas Crown Affair (both versions)
Layer Cake
Tailor of Panama
The International

Spoofy
OSS 117
Mr. and Mrs. Smith

Television
I-spy (great for QoS fans--Levi's Sta-prest abound)
The Saint (Simon Dutton version which is impossible to find)

For a spoof take on the Bond films, I enjoy watching the Austin Powers films. In terms of action, I'm also hoping to see True Lies sometime down the line...Should I have some spare time, that is! 8-)

If you have any spare time don't waste it on True Lies.

True Lies is excellent, Arnie's second best after Predator IMO.

Elsewhere, I think the Metal Gear Solid video games are very much inspired by Bond.

I definitely enjoy popping in the Bourne Films, and also Ronin, as sort of "anti-bond" action films. And for some suave spy action, I'm a big fan of the show "Burn Notice". Guns, girls, bikinis, crazy plots, action, humor, and cool clothes... love it!

    Rookie Of The Year
    Rudy
    Saving Private Ryan

Major League is a great call - not seen that for ages - although Major League 2 is awful!

    Television shows:

    Alias

The Agency ( A good show that should have gone on longer rather than be canceled.)

Any of the documentaries on the CIA that the Discovery Channel produced

    I SPY

    Movies:

    Spy Game

    True Lies

    Patriot Games

    The Hunt for Red October

Austin Powers (Good for a Laugh, thought I disliked the second one's toilet humor and recycled jokes. Also I never bothered seeing the third movie.)

I forgot to add to television programs worth a look sometime. Get Smart with Don Adams and Chuck.

Chuck has many references to the Bond films, as well clever jokes and action scenes. Get Smart is classic comedy at its best.

If your a fan of the "early" Bond films, then a purchase of the "Dangerman"/"Secret Agent" series is an absolute must have.

Virtually everyone who appeared in an early Bond film, from Bernard Lee and Lois Maxwell, Robert Shaw, Eric Pohlman, Anthony Dawson not to mention Honor Blackman, had a part on this show. Since this show started in 1960 - it actually predates Bond!

It is a worthy and established fact that Paddy Fitz ( AKA Patrick McGoohan) was offered the part of 007 - and turned it down - too much sex!

There's a hell of a lot trashier out there. All things considered Taken is a pretty good quality film.
