    'M' ..... John Standing.
    Col. Smithers ..... Ian Ogilvy
    Pussy Galore ..... Rosamund Pike

    Alfred ..... Alan Shearman
    Nigel ..... Matthew Wolf
    Fleming ..... Martin Jarvis

So here's my take on the play:

On Good Friday we set off for a short break at my in-laws caravan in Skegness, (and believe it or not we got there and back without getting stuck in a single que of traffic - now that's what I call a miracle!).

Now on the Saturday morning it dawned on me that the radio play was on but I couldn't for love nor money remember the time it was on or the frequency for Radio 4. Even a shifty trip to a newsagents was no good as the closest newsagents were the only two in Lincolnshire not to stock the Radio Times, (for those of you outside the UK that's a BBC produced TV listing magazine that also has listings for BBC radio stations).

Now I really wanted to catch the show - so I ended up phoning my sister and she googled for me and we managed to catch the show, (thanks sis! you're one a million!). I also recorded it with the voice memo feature that I have on my iPod Nano. In the not too distant future I'll be more than happy to share this copy with you... although I'm sure you'll be able to hear the bit where a seagull landed on the caravan roof and the dogs barked to scare it away. So I'm working on a "Plan B" - so watch this space.

As for the play itself I really did enjoy it and found it to be somewhere between an audio book and watching a film. It was very faithful to the book as opposed to the film, although I was surprised to hear Oddjob speak - I guess that mute Korean henchmen do not translate that well into characters in a radio play. All in all a very enjoyable 90 minutes hearing Bond take on the man with the midas touch.

You can also read about the play at the Ian Fleming publications website: http://www.ianfleming.com/ which also has a link to a very informative article in The Times about Goldfinger.

Ah, Skegness. Donkey rides on the beach, striped deck chairs, slot machines and penny push, beach combing, fresh doughnuts, Billy Butlin smiling down, fighting with the Skinheads on a bank holiday Monday.

    Memory lane.
Dont wait for your ship to come in. Swim out and meet the bloody thing.
