there were alot of mistakes in this film. roger pretending to ski was one. i prefer the actor to do some stuff himself (like dalton did).

It's one of favourites. A fresh start after Moonraker
I think there are many threads covering what we all think are the high points of FYEO (along with plenty that probably slate it...)

fyeo is a fresh start and it has brilliant actors like the one who played the villian and the havelock girl

I think it's by far the best of the Roger Moore era and one of the best films in the series. Great action, a solid plot that twists and turns and is always interesting, stunningly beautiful locations, a subtly manipulative and nasty villain, a gorgeous heroine with layers and an interesting arc, and the best pacing of any Bond movie.

The only downside is Bibi Dahl, who doesn't belong in any Bond movie, let alone this more serious one. The score, too, is hit and miss; sometimes it's very 80s, cheesy and techno-ish, but at other times it soars (the use of the title song in the orchestration is beautiful).

Despite those two minor flaws, this is a brilliant espionage movie, my personal favorite of the series (even though I don't quite rank it as "best").

Ha Ha! This is the first thread I ever opened. :))
Sorry. Just in a bit of a nostalgic mood at the moment. For Your Eyes Only was the first film I had ever seen properly (Watched YOLT when I was very little). I fell in Love with the characters, the plot and everything about the film. For me, I felt like it was really good at creating a world of its own. It does a great balance of Humour but fantastic plot as well. Kind of a updated FRWL, with many references to Fleming in it.
What Bond film do you guys think are the best at creating its own world and letting you escape in it?

It was a serious Moore film. It has my favorite sense of scenery in all the Bond films. Loved the opening and conclusion. Moore's acting was solid, and there was good action in there. The villain was forgettable so the plot is kinda meh, but it overall comes together very well.

I actually like Kristatos as villain!

I watched it for the first time in ages the other night. I can't believe I used to dislike it. It's a great film, and one I think I will start watching more regularly, along with LALD and YOLT.

    Huge letdown compared to Moonraker.

    Drab. Boring. Dated.

Still a decent Bond film, but can't hold a candle to the previous two films.

I don't really compare it to Moonraker. Since I watched FYEO first. I just see it as focusing on another direction.

I saw "Spy" and MR first. "Spy" I loved - MR was immensely watchable but there were scenes which made you cringe.

FYEO was a breath of fresh air. The plot, music, direction, characterisations, stunts, locations and I loved Julian Glovers kristatos because he matched the film.No Blofeld type maniacs like the last film. And there was that rivalry with Colombo to keep you on your toes.

    Same with me.

I've seen TSWLM as my fist Bond movie but FYEO made me a fan.
    FYEO ranks in my list as Nr. 2 - after the magnificent OHMSS -{

A Bond film that ticks pretty much every box. Although not in my top five, it is a very entertaining watch. :)

That's the best way to describe it. It gives us everything we want in spades, but isn't as original or groundbreaking as the others.

Btw, I love the theme song by Sheena Easton and the fact that the serious passionate song comes after the disposal of Blofeld makes it all click really well.

It would be my favourite if it didn't have THE worse soundtrack in an EON Bond. It just drags it down so for me. The movie itself is actually probably his best, though the bomb scene in OP was my favourite specific moment from Sir Rog.

Agree - it's a pretty lousy soundtrack. On the other hand, AVTAK, my least favorite Bond film, has a great soundtrack.
