It's about time, I am beginning to tire of this whole mess.
Soon I hope that the wheels will be in motion on Bond #23 again.

I hope so...but that Icahn fellow doesn't seem overly keen to add debt to his books. Who can blame him?

They should end the franchise with a film called James Bond is Dead. Its become tired, has outlived its time and has been surpassed by franchises like Bourne.
In today's environmentally conscious, economically constrained, karmically nervous, sexually conservative world, there's no longer a place for decadent playboy spy/assassins.

Something about "James Bond is Dead" just doesn't have the ring that Goldfinger does...
I think these rumours are going to circulate for a long while yet - every journalist is going to have their particular opinion - and they are always going to put their spin on it....
I guess until there is official word from either MGM or Eon, everything else is just specualtion....

During the games launch for the re-imagining of Goldeneye 007 and James Bond 007: Blood Stone, Michael Wilson, producer of the movies since 1979, said the words that everybody wanted to hear. He believes that the studio wranglings, and enforced hiatus for the franchise will be over soon.
MGM has put the next Bond film (tentatively dubbed Bond 23) on indefinite hold. It was to be directed by Sam Mendes, star Daniel Craig, obviously, and focus on the evil organisation uncovered by Bond in Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace.
However, the British press reported on July 6 that, due to cash problems, the latest edition in the franchise had be canned for good.
It now seems that announcement was premature: "We hope to be bringing you another James Bond film soon," said Wilson while introducing the two new Bond games.
His quote adds credence to the recent claims made by both Hollywood-centric site, Risky Business, and Deadline. They state that Bond 23 is merely suspended until the sale of MGM is finalised.
We certainly hope so. After all, Quantum of Solace, critical reception aside, made over US$586million worldwide on a budget of US$200million, not including DVD and Blu-ray revenue. To kill the franchise now would've been madness, even on a raw financial level.

Well something said is better than nothing. Time to celebrate a bit. -{
Could still be a possilbility of a 2011 release if they already have a scr[pt,director and leading roles especially if MGMs money mess is sorted out by say october/november they can then start filming in january and have a november release like CR.
Heres hoping anyway.

Worth saying at least twice - even if you didn't intend to!
A fall 2011 release would be very nice. This is just all hypothetical on my part, but one might think that a new Bond film released prior to the 50th Anniversary would be a great lead-in for a "50th Anniversary DVD Super Ultra Deluxe Special Edition Blueray Commemorative Get out Your Credit Cards and Make us Some More Money" Editions for 2012. I've always believed that instead of releasing a new Bond film in 2012 to commemorate the 50th Anniversary, that EON and whoever shares Bond with them would prefer this arrangement. Big, big money in DVDs.
At present the Bourne franchise is in just as perilous a state as the Bond films. In fact I would be very surprised to see another Bourne film at all given Greengrass was removed from the project and Matt Damon also walked.

Agreed, John. Bourne, Bourne, Bourne...[yawn]...in what sense has Ludlum's hero surpassed Fleming's? Bigger box office over the course of its three films? Okay, great. I enjoyed those films quite a lot; good fun. But for Bourne to survive, The Brainwashed Assassin is going need a whole new angle...at which point he arguably ceases being Bourne---since the whole trilogy hinged on a circle which has now been closed...
There's a reason why the Bond template has survived constant evolution, recasting and reinvention---from the original novels to dinner theatre comedy to the current darker era: A fantastic, distinct concept with an open-ended destiny. Conversely, there's also a reason why most franchises sputter and fade after three or four entries: the lack thereof. Doesn't mean the latter is lesser than the former...but IMRO, neither should it mean the opposite

Well, so much for a fast resolution to this MGM mess. Can't blame Icahn for not wanting to take on MGM's huge debt (I bet he would jump at the chance if he could just buy the Bond rights though). It's pretty clear that Lionsgate has there own mess to sort out. It's amazing how this situation just keeps going on and on...and very frustrating for Bond fans and unfair to EON and the Bond franchise which has done nothing but make tons of money for MGM over a very long time span.
I'm hoping for a good long break in the new series of movies for the producers given their track record,
DAD, pretty bad. CR, pretty good. QOS , utter rubbish.

No I expect another load of old rubbish badly shot, badly edited and some crappy old sound bites of a script which some will praise as a great step forward in the new reboot of the series. Some haven't noticed the king is in the altogether.

Here's a news article from Yahoo by way of Reuters that pretty neatly sums up the ongoing mess and provides a few potential insights into Wilson's and Broccoli's states of mind at this juncture.
Of interest is the news that the due date for debt payment has been extended to September (first I'd heard of this), the admission that EON is still courting Sony to get in the mix (not surprising given their positive experiences with CR and QoS), the fact that WB's $1.5 billion is still the best offer on the table, and EON's fear of a company like Lionsgate ending up with Bond. I always thought Lionsgate was ill-suited to finance a Bond movie and this article seems to confirm it.

I dont expect Bourne to have the longevity of Bond. But Bourne is a troubled assassin who doesnt want to keep doing what he was trained to do on moral grounds. Bond is an assassin who switches off so he can do what needs to be done - sometimes following orders and sometimes not. Bond is like the Black Ops people in Bourne but hes licensed to kill and we trust him because hes the good guy whereas we dont trust the Blackbria/Treadstone mob. its amazing how dramatic emphasis can make the same thing look good or evil.

I was at Daniel Craig's page at IMDB, and for some reason Bond 23 is not listed there anymore. Though I doubt it is a sign that Bond 23 is gone for good, all that is needed is for money to come into MGM again, and then things will turn around.
If you ask me MGM would not be in this mess had they been more selective in making plans for future projects. Rather than remaking older films, they should have focused on getting newer screenplays and limiting the budgets of the films that were already set to made.
