Goldeneye Helicopter...rotting-away at Leavesden. Pics.

I think I can get away with posting these pics. without the wrath of EON coming down on me! LoL

Was at Leavesden a few months back and was able to get behind the fence behind the guard shack and viola' I present the Goldeneye helicopter. My "inside man" commented that there is no plans for it to be moved; EON won't sell it nor donate it to the IFF. So...its in a side state and will continue to get worse.

I have really enjoyed the Board....Enjoy.

Note: The Goldeneye Pilatus Porter is gone...the Potter folks scrapped it because it was in the way of their containers behind one of the sets.

Wow ! Thanks for sharing...great pics.

It's such a shame that they have taken this attitude, this helicopter should be donated to either the IFF or to Peter Nelson's fabulous 'James Bond Museum'....where it could be exhibited for all to enjoy.

    Whats IFF?
  • bondfanbondfan Posts: 70MI6 Agent
The " IFF " is the Ian Fleming Foundation.

The Group has been pretty fortunate to have a loose association with EON and have been able to aquire quite a few key vehicles from the series. They also have a working relationship with the Beaulieu Museum which also has a very nice selection of original Bond vehicles and props.

Nice pictures, shame it is just sitting like a discarded prop thesedays, could be given to The London Film Museum or summit?

I agree that such a wonderful prop should not be left to rot away. I remember being really sad when I heard that both Ectomobiles from the Ghostbusters films were suffering a similar mistreatment from Columbia pictures. Thankfully they listened to the fans and Ecto 1 got restored in time for the 25th anniversary of the first film last year. Hopefully some nice person will offer to buy it and take care of it just like many of the other vehicles it for the Bond series now privately owned.

PS: what is a Pilatus Porter?

All well and good saying where it should go, but the first post spells out the problem, in that "EON won't sell it nor donate it".

So it will sit rotting there until Eon have a change of mind - the sooner the better.

PPK - its a small single engine plane. Bondfan is referring to the full scale one used by Bond to escape at the end of Goldeneye's opening teaser. - A miniature of the plane was used as part of Derek Meddings set piece when the chemical factory blows up.

Its a Sad state of affairs, but Eon probably have other things on their minds right now. We have to remember, from their perspective a discarded prop is just that - something left behind or forgotten about as they are concentrating on moving their business forward. Its ironic, but I have noticed that a lot of production companies miss the point when their production becomes a classic. They don't seem to realise the audience has a very long memory, and will have an ongoing interest in these things.

I fully agree with the idea of the helicopter going to a good home, as the Astons, Lotus's and other vehicles have.

    - Paramount deliberately trashed the Trek sets after the last series ended, and Bridge Studios who make the Stargate tv series (another MGM distribution) have been selling off props, costumes and set pieces from SG1 and Atlantis for months now. - its a sign of the financial times I'm afraid.
This is Thunderbird 2, how can I be of assistance?

    Hi,

Been a while since this topic was active B-)

Thanks a lot for the images of the Tiger helicopter, just what I was looking for!

But do you happen to have images of the Pilatus Porter too ?

    Thanks!

    Regards,

The porter is long gone. I was invited to the set on the second Potter at leavesden and made a point to wander down to the lower hanger where the porter last sat. It was torn up from a move by a few careless guys and a caterpillar. No one gave a hoot. The wings were all crushed and most of the instruments and misc inside was taken by a few souviner hunters (I was offered a stick with a nice brass plate from it years ago). It's not there anymore. I suspect it just got crushed and put in a large trash bin. I saw the tiger the last time I was there...I was visiting the set of the Cruise film Edge of Tomorrow. It had been moved and was now in an open field. I even joked about trying to buy it....it was not totally dismissed but my contacts said EON just would keep it where it was. They didn't want to be bothered. I even went to their office at Pinewood with a well connected buddy but couldn't find anyone that knew anything about it there. I just kinda gave up.

Can't believe some of the stupid potshots at EON in this thread, very unfair.

Have you all forgotten that the GoldenEye helicopter self detonated in the film, with Bond and Nayalya ejecting from it to safety?

EON has obviously spent the intervening years painstakingly restoring it, piece by piece. :D

That's rather crap of them, frankly. Surely the fact that people want to preserve such things is a credit to what they've created.

Wow. I never knew that it was rotting there. I thought the French Government owned it actually.
The next lot is number 48. A superb green-gold imperial Easter egg by Carl Faberge. Enameled in translucent green, enclosed by gold laurel-leaf trellis. Set with blue sapphires and four petalled gold flowers with diamonds.

There were two Tigre mock-ups ,the first that was used by Eurocopter as a PR display at tradeshows, airshows etc was not detailed enough for film work so EON made their own ,better detailed, version copied from an actual airframe so fully owned by Eon . I know an aviation museum that could give it a good home ;)
