OK, whilst I agree with the reasons HB killed the last thread, I believe we still need a thread running on this subject. I have emailed GE Fabbri regarding the materials used for the body but have yet to recieve a response. Does anybody know what the body will be made of?
PS Pls don't anybody spam this thread

I am pleased this thread has been started once again. I intend to collect the set but want the first mag to see if the materails are of decent qulaity before starting a subscription. The previous thread said it was on trial in scotland. Anyone any ideas when it will be on general release?
There is one...it just doesn't seem to work though !
Too rich for my pocket...plus I just don't have the patience....looking forward to pics though...November 2011 though Still...could be seen before Bond 23 )
I wonder what will happen if it gets canceled halfway through??
What good is half a model, considering we don't get the body till near the end? Scary thought!!8-)
think i'll wait til near the end then order the lot on back order.

Not so far, got a confirmation email already, so I'm committed.
This should be interesting as the parts arrive, no doubt some of us will get bits missing or broken.
I wonder if the policy of replacements will be the same as the car collection? IE: keep the broken bit, they send free replacements!
Interesting thought!
if it was thursday you tried to subscribe, they were having problems with ther computers due to power cuts
i phoned them because the subscription starts from issue 2 and you have to back order issue 1
but they phoned me back on friday to confirm they were up and running again
has anyone in the dundee area got a spare issue one as the shop has sent the unsold ones back
i live in fife so i will gladly come and pick it up
the dimension of the finished car is 57cm long and weighs 8.5 kilos
Guys,
Bit of insider info for those who can't decide whether to commit to 75 weeks of waiting or not?The master engineering prototype for GE Fabbri was created by the company responsible for the prototype & production Danbury Mint JB Aston Martin DB5. Both the Danbury & GE Fabbri models had to pass approval by Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd. In short this will be worth waiting for.
The only competition this model has although not in the same price range, is made to order in Germany at a cost of 3500 Euros and for those who are wondering? I do not work for GE Fabbri.
also, is it set in stone it will be 75 issues and no more?

Yes and yes (well at least lets hope so)...lol
If you check the website they have released a schedule showing which parts will come with which issue which I believe is cast in stone so you are looking at the 70's until you see any major Silver Birch although the doors will come earlier.
Got my 1st 3 issues today, and the working lights is right, brake lights work off the brake pedal, the dashboard has lights too!
There's even a horn! (?)
Yes, says its 75 issues MG, gives you a list in the book when & which part! (Chassis is issue No 7)
Not going to open my blister packs until there's enough parts to build at least a chassis, other wise I guarantee I will lose some!
So far looks promising!
If you want accurate proportions and the look of the real car in a model then this one is so ugly it could be called the Eva Green of DB5 models.
I hope not too many of you will be disappointed when they eventually will see the finished model after having spent £500+. But don't say you haven't been warned ...
Those who are interested in the DB5 should be aware of a few things:
- The body is not in one piece so there will be gaps in the bodywork where there are none on the real car: beneath the front and rear edge of the doors to join front (issue #69) and rear body (#75). The roof is a third separate part (#66), there will be obvious gaps where the C-pillars meet the body.
- The proportions are strange which is even worse than the additional gaps (which could be filled and repainted).
The roof is too low, the side windows too narrow - the car looks like it has been "chopped" by a customizer. The bumpers are too fat. Wheel and tyre sizes and the shape and size of the wheel cutouts and side gill do not look right. This is a 1/8 model so there is no excuse for these errors.
You can see a side view of a real DB5 on pages 10/11 of the magazine here: http://007db5.com/magazine.asp
and can compare this with the side view of the model:

What do the Aston Martin specialists think? Am I too harsh on this model? I don't know, I think that the Autoart DB5, despite being half the size (and 1/8th of the price), is the far better model.
however, i'm real sceptical about subscriptions like this, and too be honest, theres just too many niggling little details for my liking.
as rainier says, on closer inspection there seems to be many issues with the whole look about the car. its a weird one really, because if you didnt have a real db5 and the model together to compare, you probably wouldn't notice. but those little issues are there non the less, and things like the lines of the bodywork, tyres and lights etc all have little descrepencies in them.
from the outside, its looks close to a db5, it just..... wel isnt quite there. and with me risking total alienation from ajb, i have to bear in mind that this was originally a model made for corgi, who erm, don't exactly produce the most accurate of models. (in fairness, corgi's aren't the most expensive by far though).
moving into the interior, the dash board seems a little too large, either that or the dials are too small, they just dont seem to fill the space. the heater controls and radio look to fat and 'squidgy', and the gearlever looks practically amateur. the tracker display looks all too clumsy as well, plus the centre dial (which i think is a clock) is too small, and there should be two other dials flanking it, which aren't there in the model.
another issue for me is the fact the body comes in bits. now with me, i'd personally fit all the panels together, fill and repaint. but you shouldn't have to in my mind. the other major detail is paint colour. if you've ever repaired your wife's car after that tree jumped out into the road, you'll know that paint varies. alot. if parts like the front of the 'shell, the rear, the doors, the bonnet, and the boot all come separately, i'm betting they'll all be slightly different shades of silver birch.
so for me, its all a little to clumsey and uncertain for me to subscribe. i must admit, the initial thoughts were very promising and i did almost go in for it. having waited for a few more details to come out has made me stop, think and have a proper ponder over it.
deep apologies to anyone if you think i'm being a bit of an arse, but these forums are all about voicing opinion, and theres my say on it. i wish all the subscribers the best of luck with it, and hope that you're pleased with the outcome in 18 months time.
come on GE Fabbri, prove me wrong, and i'll order all the back issues at the last moment! )

Just received parts 1, 2 and 3 of the Aston Martin DB5 model and magazine this morning and all looks well. The only thing I didn't like was the way they are shipping the bits - in plastic bags. When I first started getting the "James Bond Car Collection" models, they began coming in plastic bags and the display cases on a couple of them ended up getting cracked on delivery. I sent Ge Fabbri a letter telling them that the cases were getting damaged and for the delivery of all the following models, they came in cardboard boxes and upto now, they have all been O.K. since. I think that it would be better if Ge Fabbri were to send all the parts for the DB5 out in cardboard boxes as they would have a lot better protection and less chance of getting damaged in transit. Can't wait for the rest of the parts. This looks like it is going to be one hell of a superb model. Just need a BIG space to display it when it's finished! )
Im no DB5 expert so wouldnt have noticed some of the things that people have pointed out. Looking at the website, and the "in detail" option the chrome on the bumper looked patchy to me, and the interirors looked kinda blobby. One thing I didnt like was the huge (in relation to the scale) hinge for the phone door flap. Am I being too picky??
All that said overall it looks quite nice to me, and I probably lose more than 7 quid down the back of the sofa each week, so.......
Still on the fence....
the answer to whether to subscribe or not has been starring at me all day - my kyosho vanquish.
if kyosho can make a fully built model with so much more detail in it for £200 less, then why isnt the 1:8 db5 better made and finished?
size isn't everything (enter smutty one liner here.
