Roger Moore Should Still be Bond

After suggesting that Roger Moore still be Bond, I have found many so-called ''fans'' very resentful of the idea, mostly on substandard forums that don't really understand how the Bond franchise has greatly diminished since 1985.

My proposal is that Eon should re-instate Sir Rog and re-make EVERY Bond film since 1985 and they should be offerring him a golden-handscuff deal to make these movies once a year so that fans don't have to wait ages just to see yet another idiotic, special-effects driven load of rubbish delivered by sub standard actors.

Moore may be 83, but he has always looked young for his age and could pull it off still! He was older than Connery was when Connery retired, and still looked no older than 30!

Three facts about Moore's Bond:

1) He had the most charisma
2) He had the best villians EVER. Nic Nac, Jaws and Scaramanga totally defeat the likes of Blofeld (any interpretation, even Telly's), Red Grant and Largo.
3) Sir Rog still has the capability to make women swoon, as proof see this advert: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_o4IDZtj5WA

Yes, there can be no doubt: Roger Moore should still be Bond and it is disgraceful he ever left the role. Real fans should petition Eon to hire him once more so we can enjoy Bond films again. Any assertions to the contrary are frogwash as far as I am concerned.

    Hi there! And thanks! :))

Just had a quick look at your site btw, are you a published author (i.e. traditional or self)? Your website is actually pretty neat!

    Nothing traditional about me, Scash---I'm making a run at it, having become mortally impatient with The System. I've gone independent...and we'll see how it goes. But you can't win if you don't play ;) Hope you decide to take a look at the book! And once again, a most sincere welcome to what many of us feel is the best Bond fan site on the internet -{

We need to officially petition Eon into REMAKING ALL Bond films where Moore was absent, starting with Dr No. This should ideally take place every 6-12 months until each and every film is completed.

So let me get this straight. If this happened, then (regarding film continuity) from Dr No to Diamonds are forever, Roger would be in his 80's. Then all of a sudden, he drops dramatically in age for LALD, and gradually gets older through to AVTAK. Then, from TLD, he suddenly ages dramatically again, going from being in his 50's to his 80's. And then from the films following TLD onwards, he is well into his 80's, possibly early 90's, possibly even dead.

Your idea is, let's just say, not very practical :))
    1 - LALD, 2 - AVTAK, 3 - LTK, 4 - OP, 5 - NTTD, 6 - FYEO, 7 - SF, 8 - DN, 9 - DAF, 10 - TSWLM, 11 - OHMSS, 12 - TMWTGG, 13 - GE, 14 - MR, 15 - TLD, 16 - YOLT, 17 - GF, 18 - DAD, 19 - TWINE, 20 - SP, 21 - TND, 22 - FRWL, 23 - TB, 24 - CR, 25 - QOS

    1 - Moore, 2 - Dalton, 3 - Craig, 4 - Connery, 5 - Brosnan, 6 - Lazenby

Sir Rog doesn't age like normal men. He still looks late 40s, even after all these years! I even made a post about his youthfulness in another thread, with photographic evidence!

I'm sorry Loeffelholz...I just cannot believe that at all....28 ???? Are you completely mad ??? You need to see your occulist - and quickly !

Sir Roger Moore doesn't look a day over 15 and is way too YOUNG to be even considered for the role of Bond...unless they decide to make movies of the Young Bond books that Charlie Higson wrote !

And here I thought JennyFlexFan had gone the way of the dodo. Thank you, The Scashman, for one of the funniest posts I've read since JFF left these boards.

But, if you are truly serious then we really need to consider who we will cast opposite him. Perhaps in Thunderball.

Michael Caine would make an interesting 'M'.

Bring back John Cleese as 'Q'.

Pretty easy casting there. But then it gets a little tougher.

I suppose you could have Maggie Smith as Moneypenney.

    Vanessa Redgrave as Domino.

    Abe Vigoda as Felix.

Largo would be a tough casting choice. Maybe Leslie Nielsen or Andy Griffith.

For the Fiona/Fatima femme fatale you would need someone really youthful and sexy. How about Brenda Blethyn?

Although Jaws wasn't featured in Thunderball originally he might be a nice addition as the ridiculously strong, indestructible henchman. We could cast Jimmie "J.J." Walker, or better yet, Jamie Farr.

The plotlines would have to be re-written a bit to take advantage of the cast's "maturity."
At the Shrublands clinic Jaws could attempt to kill 007 by changing his meds, replacing his Geritol tablets with Viagra, inducing a heart attack. When that fails, Jaws could push Bond's Lotus wheelchair down a flight of stairs. The quick thinking 007 could activate the detachable walker with built in rockets to lift himself out of danger while Jaws watches dumbfounded.
Instead of nuclear missiles, Largo/SPECTRE could try hijacking a retirement community in Miami.
In the climactic shuflleboard tournament, with the score all tied up Bond could defeat Largo with a ten point shot that causes the villain to have a sudden massive coronary.
Later, while Bond and Domino are comfortably enjoying Lawrence Welk reruns, cookies and warm milk, Jaws could try one last time to defeat his arch nemesis by stealing the t.v. remote. The quick thinking Bond could pull out his 'Q' issued universal remote with built in Ex-Lax dart shooter and send Jaws groaning and cramping all the way to the nearest lavatory.
Bond and Domino could then settle in and take a nap.

    What do you think?

How about a pairing of Roger as a retired 00 agent (David Niven/Royale '67) and the current 007 in the style of Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade. I don't think this would work with the Daniel Craig Bond but would definately be effective to herald in his replacement and bring back the humour and gadgets.

I have to applaud your loyalty and enthusiasm, if not your sense of what's realistic! Moore worked well in the type of Bonds they made in the 70's and early 80's, but the demands have changed a bit.
The audience today expect a Bond who is more belivable in both the action scenes and the character scenes. Unfortunately, Moore is the weakest actor and the least convincing in the action scenes of all the Bonds. That's my opinion and the opinion of many others. There is also the fact that Moore was bourne in1927 ....

I actually like this idea a lot. The problem with Brosnan and Craig's series and modern action cinema in general is that there's nothing for young viewers to enjoy or expose them to the older films (besides crappy homages like the Quantum oil scene). I could also see Connery teaming/or opposing Craig.
  • THORNYBUSHTHORNYBUSH EnglandPosts: 19MI6 Agent
.....I guess Connery/Craig would be the dream team with that scenario - But Connery is retired and the thread is about Roger Moore returning! lol. As you say - it would be a great introductory tool for a new audience, acknowledging the past in an entertaining way and thrusting them toward the future of Bond.

FACT! Look at the evidence. Look what Roger did to Daniel. FACT!

    Sean Connery "Shocking. Positively shocking"
George Lazenby "This never happened to me"
Timothy Dalton "I bet Roger beat The Living Daylights out of him"
Pierce Brosnan "Oh Danny boy. The pipes, the pipes are calling"

Roger himself said "It was all in the wrist"
