Having said that, I remember Sid James playing a nasty (and convincing) villian in a film once. Not a big part, but far from the Sid James I knew.

I thought it was a fun piece of satire. You don't think that screen test was from, cough, oh say, Carry on Spying, do ya? Nahh...

But I saw Sid play a tough as nails news reporter once. One of the Quatermass films. (black & white), I think he was capable of shedding his salacious reputation as a leering comic brute.
