What's a 'dress watch'?

Is it only really for going out and being swanky, for wearing with a dj?

I'm thinking of buying this:

but would you say that's more a dress watch or okay for everyday use at work? How would you define a dress watch?

Okay, I've had a look on the net and it seems it's a basic, stripped down elegant watch without flashy gizmos or gimmicks, suitable for wearing with a suit or in a work context. Some say even having a date is a bit too flashy.

Classic dress watches are generally the last thing you'd wear at the beach. Gold, leather srap, no date, slimline to wear comfortably with a shirt sleeve and dinner jacket. In CR Bond wears his rubber strap Omega Planet Ocean for his action scenes, but in the casino wears a stainless Seamaster. This is not a dress watch by any means.

The best thing to do is go dwn to a shop that has a good selection of time pieces and see which one looks the best on you and you like then go from there. that being said I am partial to the Rolex brand, but everyone is different.

BTW is it wise to bid on eBay for a watch? It's a one-off, and prob under the £100 mark but is it likely to be a replica? Would any of you lot do it?

Well...that really depends upon the watch, naturally.

Don't go down the replica route. They look good at a glance, but people with real items know they're fake and what sort of message are you giving out about yourself wearing a fake? There's no two ways about it, a replica/fake/copy will have a rubbish movement and over the course of time will be considerably inaccurate and almost certainly not waterproof.
As for any moral dilema - terrorism and organised crime are always linked. I was present providing support for the RUC in raids in N.Ireland where pirate videos (showing my age!), CD's and fake watches were seized - all bringing in funds for various terrorist groups to buy weapons etc. Now more than ever the risk that somewhere in the chain a fake watch will provide terrorists with funds is almost certain.

Well, okay, but I don't really know if it's replica or not. We're not talking Omega or Rolex here. I agree, replicas are naff. Terrorism is bad, but you have to admit some of the gun-wielding chicks in the 1970s Red Brigade were quite hot.
