Tachymeter on watches - just tacky?

Hi, I'm about to buy a watch on eBay, it's only around £20 but looks good. A bit big at 40mm diameter, I must say taht 30mm is more my size.

I'm also put off by a tachymeter around the outside, it measures the speed you are going at. Is it necessary or just a gimmick? I don't feel I'd ever use it. What's the opinion on this?

Yeah, good luck working out how to use it. Looks good though. Diving bezels are simple to use, but tachometres... The Navitimer I bought in a moment's weakness is so full of digits and information, I can barely see it when on the move, let alone use it...

Honest answer ? I think it's personal choice.....I prefer a 'simple' watch.....one that tells the time works for me ....if it has a date feature, thats all the better...but after that..?...I'm not interested

I'm not a big fan of the tachometer although my favorite Zodiac Chrono has one.
I really prefer the timeless design of the tach on the dial like on the pre-daytona like Lazenby wore in OHMSS. It isn't as blatant as the ones on the bezel.
