the dynamics between Bond and Leiter in TB

I thought Bond and Leiter were friends, however, in TB there seems to be a lot of tension between Bond and Leiter almost as if there was tension between Connery and Rik Van Nutter.

I dont think there was any tension other than the situation they found themselves in. The film makers tricked us into thinking Bond is being watched by Nutter because you have a new actor and dont know who he is. Also because of editing changes that Peter Hunt made makes it a bit confusing. You think he is being watched by the enemy at first in Dr No as well. Bond is short with him in the helecopter because he is in the moment. He is also irritated that Leiter keeps changeing his pants in the helicopter as well. )

I agree there's tension, it's the way it's written. Leiter is sort of a yes man "I guess you're right James" and Bond is sort of barking orders at him. It's partly cos Leiter is younger and maybe as handsome as Bond, there's that competitiveness.
