Hello all,
I thought it would nice to have a thread devoted to all of the news related to the upcoming Goldeneye remake coming to the Wii. Below is a link to a recent press event to promote both Goldeneye and Bloodstone's release in London.

Their are six other parts to this video, including an interview with Joss Stone about working on Bloodstone. I am really excited to see Goldeneye remade. I don't mind that Daniel Craig is playing James Bond in the game, instead of Pierce Brosnan. The gameplay looks good, I hope that like the Nintendo 64 original, their is more than just gun play. For me Quantum of Solace, was okay as a video game, thought it could have been better planed and used more time in development prior to going to retail.

Looks like GE: Wii is definetly being seen more than a cash in.
I know that it's just a game and that the actual gameplay is somewhat different from the original but the switch in likenesses strikes me as a creatively wrong decision nonetheless. It would be akin to making a game based on Goldfinger but not retaining Connery's likeness as part of some misguided attempt to appease the licenseholders or cater to young gamers who may not be familar with the original actor.
Activision would have to have payed not only Brosnan but Sean Bean and Gottfried John to use their likeness. That is why no one looks like the original actors from the game or the movie. It's much cheaper to replace those images and have a current Bond under contract who would be no position to ask an extraordinary sum of money.
Even when an actor is dead, the estate of said actor has to be contacted to use their likeness, image, or voice or else you have a lawsuit on your hands.
Besides, I very much doubt Brosnan would have asked for a king's ransom to license his likeness for the game; something tells me he would have enjoyed making a return engagement during Craig's tenure, even if it were only for a game.
You really think so ? After that nasty split, I am sure Brosnan would have asked for a lot money for a one shot deal. He may have enjoyed the role but he wouldn't be so sentimental that he wouldn't ask for a big pay check. Also I do agree that EON wants to promote Craig and Craig only as Bond now and I can't blame them because it's been three years since the last Bond film. They have to keep that image of Craig as 007 fresh in everyone's minds. However at the end of the day, it all came down to cutting costs. Hell, they don't even have Tina Turner singing the main theme.
It would have been even more of a mess if they had Brosnan's likeness as Bond and new people playing the other roles.
Also having the extra objectives relating to gathering information for MI6 really made me feel like I was James Bond.
Bravo to Eurocom for a job well done.
Awesome. Awesome. Awesome.
There are definitely some pros and cons. The pros? Great level of interactivity and atmosphere; seeing the old maps and locations rendered with greater attention to detail is very exciting. Sure we don't get to see Pierce Brosnan and Sean Bean (sadly), but the voice work is still great and I was really impressed by what I saw. It's also a lot of fun. Like the original, I found it addictive and soon after putting it down I felt the urge to play it again.
The cons? The control scheme. The "recommended" method (nunchuk and wiimote combo) was frustrating; sure it's a lot smoother than other Wii shooters -- and the concentrated aiming system helps a ton -- but when the motion sensors wandered off-screen for a moment I would find myself occasionally stuck. Keep in mind I'm not a regular Wii gamer, but this should still be considered a viable flaw. Plus holding up the remotes for a long period of time was a bit of a strain.
I'll try the "classic" playing method sometime in the near future, but I've heard rumours that it's also frustrating...?
1) The Spy Who Loved Me 2) On Her Majesty's Secret Service 3) GoldenEye 4) Casino Royale 5) Goldfinger
I've heard relying on the traditional method would keep you at a disadvantage.
Yeah I heard something like that as well; IGN says, for instance, that you can't do the "peek around corners" action with the analogue controller. Also, I wonder if it makes turning left and right slower? Even with the nunchuk/wiimote, it's practically impossible to do a rapid left-right scan like Pierce Brosnan does at the beginning of the movie.

The great thing about GoldenEye, and even Rogue Agent and From Russia with Love, were the 'homage' levels that let you revisit the environments from the classic films. I would like to see that trend continue.
Goldeneye is good, but it's not good enough to warrant getting a wii just to play it unless you could get the console dirt cheap.
By all accounts Bloodstone is an absolute stinker, I am yet to read anything positive about it so I'd recommend downloading the demo if there is one before buying it. I was excited about it myself, but after seeing the critical reception it got, I have given it a miss. I might pick it up when the price drops
Yeah, I've heard lackluster Bloodstone reviews myself, but the QOS game fell a little flat with reviewers also, and I still enjoyed it. Even the worst of the Bond shooters (probably TWINE in my opinion) have given me some level of entertainment.
Like you, though, I'm hoping to see a fast drop in price before committing.
Thats true, I quite enjoyed QoS myself, and it is Bond I guess
From the weapons to the gun play, the stealth missions. The little tweaks from the original story were great.
This is just a great game all around. My only complaints with it is with the lack of bots in the multiplayer.....I mean you include an offline mode, but don't include computer players? What gives?
And the few other complaints that I had were actually fixed in 007 Legends.
1: Brosnan 2: Craig 3: Moore 4: Dalton 5: Connery and 6: Lazenby
Well said, my fellow fan.
