I think to mark 50 years since doctor no in 2012 bond 23 should star all 6 bond actors, what do you think? Sean conneary as M George lazenby as a hitman Roger moore as Q Timothy dalton as the main villian Pierce brosnan as 006 Craig as bond

No offense but this is the type of gimmick I am afraid of if the film is indeed being released in 2012. Crank out some merchandise to celeberate but please, keep it out of the films.
  • Yeah let's not. Since it's 50 years since the release of Dr No, have the Bond girl come up from the water and let "Underneath the Mango Tree" be on a radio in the background or something, but that'd be enough.

I heard they had plans like this with Sean Connery to make a cameo in Die Another Day, apparently as Bond's father, until an observant someone remembered that Bond was an orphan. Close shave there alright.
That's a Smith and Wesson, and you've had your six.

Worst idea ever! Might be fun if they could pull it off as a comic relief sketch, but not in an official 007 movie.

Not an original thought by any means, but I will echo thoughts of others that the best way to celebrate the anniversary is not by looking back, but just to give us the best film they can. No fanwan*y references, just a big scale, fun, cracking action thriller - with Sean as Bonds dad .....one part of that was a joke..who wants a good action thriller anyway? ;)

Giving the best film they can? That's not saying much.

The old idea of a cameo scene with all previous actors playing backgamman in the background would be cool. Not leading roles. Sadly, they're just too old and creaky now, though it would save Sir Sean's last film from being the surely execrable Billie the Vet.

As this is a new series of Bond movies,There should be no refrence to any previous Bond Movies. After all Bond has just got his 00 status.and I do wish they would stop those crappy homages to older movies as in QOS girl in Oil. :#

The '64 Aston Martin DB5 in Casino Royale was almost as stupid.

Especially when owned by a dick like Dimitri. His cheap Aston DB9 model keyring showed he had neither the class nor soul to own such a car.

    Another good point.

I mean really, EON must not think much of their fans if they believed tossing in the DB5 would be a good "homage". When you just stuff in some of the greatest symbols of the Bond films in at random as they did with CR and QOS, it just makes the films loose a lot of credibility.

I like the backgammon idea. There's no harm in very brief cameos a la Michael G Wilson, but giving them notable roles would be ridiculous as they are James Bonds

what if they brought dalton back in for a good solid bond film without any homages to the old ones. he looks in shape, better then connery in never say never

I don't know if the Aston Martin in CR was a homage. They had to find a way to have the modern Bond drive a 1964 Aston Martin as it's part of his brand image, it's highly recognisable. It's not as if having him trying on his tux was a homage to past Bond films. (Now, that was a naff scene imo).

The '64 DB5 was clearly a homage to Goldfinger. You can't take it any other way. It was unessecary because your recycling images, not paying homage to them. Just like nonense with the girl covered in oil in QOS.

Perhaps it was thought that if they were removing Moneypenny, Q, the theme music (till the end), 007's introductory line (till the end), and a good title song, then the Aston Martin had to be there for, as NP says, brand recognition.

Homages are dangerous things. Get it right, its a nice marker. Get it wrong, and its like having delicious Banana split.
    Covered in pepper and onions!

I doubt Sir Sean would be willing to make a cameo appearance, and I question the others showing up, with one exception. Sir Roger put in a memorable turn in an episode of Alias a few of years back. I could see him easily play a different character in a current Bond film, in the same way Maud Adams appeared twice. Or is it three times, technically speaking? I am thinking the Minister of Defense, since Tim Pigott-Smith is established as the Foreign Secretary.

DAD and QOS on one side, and CR on the other, prove one thing. Bond is best when he / the story looks forward. A nod here and there is one thing, as long as its one, and just that, a nod. Not a blatant headbutt!

Napoleon - I loved the Dinner Suit scene in CR. Its one of my favorite quiet moments in the film!
This is Thunderbird 2, how can I be of assistance?

All you need is an Aston Martin vechicle. You don't need to chaulk up old imagery if you really want to retain the classic image of Bond.

Personally I think if any of the Bond actors made an appearance it should be George Lazenby. If anyone else made a cameo it would seem out of place IMO. People would be waiting for them to appear onscreen and focusing less on the story. GL is often over-looked as Bond and as a result I think he could fit into a film easier (that wasn't meant to be an insult). Maybe have him in one scene being Bond's contact sipping Brandy behind a desk?

Basically it wouldn't look too tacky by screaming "THIS IS A PREVIOUS BOND DOING A CAMEO" however, at the same time, it would still serve as a nice tribute to an often forgotten Bond. Probably won't happen though.

Yeah, but only the DB5 is iconic. The Astons are very nice, but not iconic in themselves. So if you want his iconic car, it has to be a DB5.

In a way, the DB5 in GE is even more out of place, with no attempt made to fit it into any context of a mid-90s film, esp as he's other cars in between.

But it was shoved in there so idiotically. Bond accidentally stumbles upon on his most famous car, please. Anyway you put it, you are just digging up the past. James Bond wearing a tux and driving a new Aston Martin was enough to have that icon of the man about town Bond is; Now if only the rest of the film decided to be as classy or as smart.

That's true but at least Bond actually owned it when the film began.

It's not him digging up the past. The past hadn't happened by then! :D Bond accidentally stumbles upon his most famous car... it's not famous then. It would be like me saying, hey, you accidentally met your future wife in a bar... :))

You're very argumentative Ricardo C - but as you're the only one who bothered to respond to my longwinded Thunderball literary thread, I forgive you. :)

But difference between stumbling on your wife is that she really isn't your wife yet, isn't she ? ;)

I think if they really wanted to put the DB5 in CR there were far more intelligent ways of doing it or better yet, don't do it at all. You really can't ignore the fact that the car has been famous because of James Bond, reboot or not.

Like I said, I wouldn't have bothered with stuffing the DB5 in Casino Royale. However I think following would have sufficed.

Let me begin by saying that I have been toying around about how I would have written Casino Royale. In what I envision, Bond would have been sent to Nassau under the orders of MI6 in the guise of simply being another rich playboy enjoying the fun and sun to investigate Alex Dimitrios because he has ties with Le Chiffre. In order to improve the cover, and clearly taking advantage of MI6's budget, Bond would visit an antique car show and purchase the iconic DB5.

Yeah, in that case you could have him purchase his trusty old Bentley from the books!

Ricardo, your explanation is even more convoluted than the film's! Are we on the same page? Are you thinking that in CR Bond already knows he likes the Aston and is already associated with it? Are you therefore annoyed that coincidentally the villain just happens to have one? Is that partly your beef?

How is it remotely convoluted ? Classic car show= Classic cars. What are you confused about ? Also as I already said, I wouldn't have done this in the first place but it makes a lot more sense.

And yes, I was annoyed that the villian, who dosen't seem to appericate anything he has, had the DB5. That was pretty stupid IMO.

It just doesn't seem to be the car someone like Dimitri would have. I'm sure he would have something like a brand new Ferrari (actually I would have said a Corvette - but they guy clearly has money) - something really brash and in-your-face. A good DB5 is £150k - 250K - but doesn't shout it loudly enough for someone like him.
