    1) Timothy Dalton. Clear winner.
    2) Daniel Craig. Good in many respects, I've warmed up to him more recently.
    3) Roger Moore. Light and easy going, but can do serious too.
    4) Pierce Brosnan. Great "I don't give a damn" attitude, but often has little depth.
    5) Sean Connery. It seems I'm one of the few who never really liked Connery as Bond.
    6) George Lazenby. "...Who?"

Well, I don't really think negatively of Brosnan's Bond, it's just that I prefer others. In my opinion Goldeneye was his best film, but the main reason for my user name is the Nintendo64 game of Goldeneye. It's fantastic.

    Thankyou :)

    Mwahahahahaha....

As Stephen King is fond of saying: "Hell is repetition."

    As for my list:

    Connery:
The first, the best, nobody delivers a quip better, perfect mix of toughness and humor; the more people are cast as Bond, the more I appreciate what he did.

    Brosnan:
Maybe it was the 7 year layover but he was just about perfect in GE; started to take it all a little too seriously after that.

    Moore:
Had his ups and downs but was just right in TSWLM; loses points for staying on too long; should have quit after MR.

    Lazenby:
For a man with zero acting experience he did alright in an entry that required Bond to emote far more than ever before; an underrated performance.

    Dalton:
A dead ringer for Fleming's Bond; took the role a little too seriously; wasn't helped by two of the weaker scripts in the series.

    Craig:
No denying his physical commitment to the part but lacks any sense of style, sophistication and humor; physically looks the furthest from the "classic" interpretation of Bond; needs to try to lighten up a little more.

Connery - By far! Perfect blend of menace, charm, humor, and physical prowess.
Craig - I was skeptical at first, but he won me over.
Brosnan - I like the way he matured in the role. Too bad he didn't have better scripts
Dalton - Good, solid, serious Bond. Could have used just a touch of humor.
Lazenby - His inexperience as a actor was evident, but there was something very likeable about him.
Moore - The worst of the bunch! Far too lightweight to be convincing as a dangerous agent with a license to kill.

Lazenby before Connery? Simple. Whilst Connery's Bond is the most iconic, I find his interpretation of the character too cheerful and too cocksure to embody Fleming's creation. Lazenby has the swagger and poise, but also the vulnerability, insecurity and self-loathing. (Craig, of course, has the last element in spades — but a bit too much, in my view.)
  • mrbain007mrbain007 Posts: 393MI6 Agent
Lazenby certainly gets a lot of hack. Whilst I think he actually did a good job in portraying the sensitive side of Fleming's character, and had the look and poise, he is my least favourite for one reason:

When I think of Bond I don't immediately think of him.

Maybe if he had done a few more it would have been different.

Then again my personal favourite is Pierce which I can see is Maxman's least favourite.

    here is my list, dalton
    connery
    moore
    brosnan
    craig
    lazenby
the 1st 3 are inseparable imo. dalton was the best as he was the most believable. he is the one you wud not assume was a spy, if you met him on the street. is dat not what it is all about? he also did 2 cracking movies which are very underrated. he is the closest to flemings bond. shame he only did 2 movies. craig sud move up my list with a couple more movies
  • Andy007Andy007 Posts: 100MI6 Agent
    1) Dalton
    2) Connery
    3) Moore
    4) Craig
    5) Brosnan
    6) Lazenby.

The first 2 will always be the best Bonds imo. I think in time Daniel Craig could be 3rd behind Connery. It depends on his 3rd film i think. Moore & Brosnan is always hard to separate, but i think Moore edges it.
Lazenby was ok but is my least favourite, as he only did 1 film & never quite fitted into the role of Bond. I think after the disappointment of QOS it would be wrong to put Craig above Moore just yet. As i say the top 2 will always be Top 2, but 3 to 5 can vary a bit depending on how i reflect on their films. I'd say the above list is just about right for me.

For me, it's too easy to rank the actor -
    1.Connery 2.Craig 3.Dalton 4.Brosnan 5.Lazenby 6.Moore 7. (honourable mention) Niven.

How about if I gave you my top five performances?

    1. Connery in THUNDERBALL
    - Carries this movie from the off, all charm and muscle, he fits the role as easy as a well tailored suit, understands the humour, the irony, the nastiness, the silliness: it is the complete package.
    2. Connery in FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE
    - A very competent job, with the script which probably gives SC more to think about than any other, he's still a bit rough around the edges, a bit like Craig in CR, and is equally debonair and ruthless. Probably the closest to Fleming's original interpreation.
    3. Dalton in THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS
    - I like this one chiefly because TD seems to be so anti-007 (by which I mean anti-Moore) that he actually becomes a very real 007. With TD it's more about what he doesn't say and do than what he does. He is silent in the PTS, he is all twinkling eyes and sly smiles in Vienna, his attitude towards Saunders and to M at the ensuing debrief is disdainful. It's a very astute performance.
    4. Craig in CASINO ROYALE
    - Well, I'm not sure it was BAFTA nominee stuff, but this is 007 at his most intense. You can see the vitriol in his relationship with M and the desire in his glances at Vesper. DC is also spectaularly masculine, to the point he would rather hunt a killer than woo a girl. Roger Moore this is not!
    5. Connery in NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN
    - Ah, how guilty a pleasure is this? SC swimming into the sunset... He's not simply a Bond actor now, he's been in a lot of great films between '71 and '83 and he brings that wealth of knowledge to a performance of style over substance. His wink at the camera tells us all he's in on the joke, but he's so damn good we don't really care.
