I don't see any reason why. Continuity is something the films have cared little about. To be honest, as brilliant as it was, Casino Royale was a needless reboot. The story could have been very easily adapted to have Bond as the veteran 007 we know and love either with Brosnan or Craig. Bond fell in love, he's done it before, doesn't have to be a rookie 00 to do that.

The film turned out great though, as did Craig, so no complaints there.

I too would love to see a new M , An old bloke who instead of becoming Bonds Mother figure will simply give him a target send him on his way and as secretagent said Give him a bollocking when he needs it.

Yes, I'm all for Bond getting a good bollocking from M when he does something reckless, like destroy half of Paris in a car chase... The current M is just a nag a minute.

What about Peter Firth who plays the head of the counter terrorist division in the show spooks or Mi5. upon watching the show he really seems like the ideal modern M.

I like Judi Dench as M.

That said, I don't think the show would have suffered from recasting — I enjoy seeing how new actors deal with old roles. As long as she was a she. Otherwise there would be too many men.

HAve Bond resque another 00-agent from QUANTUM in the PTS. The agent has been brainwashed and kills M in her office. Then cast Tom Wilkenson.
