...apart from the FRWL train fight :p

I'm going to kick off with the fight with the Piz Gloria lift guard in On her Majesty's Secret Service.

Short, sweet and cool as f. Guard taken out in 5 swift moves B-)

Loved the fight scene from OHMSS when Bond supposedly is supposed to meet Tracey in her room and this big guy shows up, theres something about that fight that always looks so real and brutal.
And the pre credits fight scene in OHMSS on the beach, very artistic.

Of the recent Bonds I love the fight between Brosnan and Bean in the radio telescope,It seems a little less staged and IMHO is more like the fight in FRWL between Bond and Grant. I also have a soft spot for the Fight between Bond and the heavy in Osato's office in YOLT,Not a brilliant fight but somehow it's one I keep thinking of when trying to recall fights from the series.

I like the scene when Craig takes out the two black guys in the stairwell in Casino Royale. The first is simplistically cold and straightfoward - pulling him through the doorway and forcing him over the bannister. The second fighting his way down the stairs with the sword/machette. Bond is on the backfoot all the way down, defending himself with his jacket, then seizing his chance and using a classic Ju-Jitsu body and choke hold on him. Like a python wrapped around its prey, it's just a matter of time before the guy either blacks out or suffocates. The way the guy kicks and struggles seems very rea - like he knows he's going to die.

By contrast I HATE the fight scene in QOS in the hotel room in Haiti. All Jason Bourne-like blocks and strikes. Anyone who has trained and fought in any discipline, at any level knows 90% of that stuff is Bul**hit.

I like that one too - using a sofa as a weapon was great! :))

I also like the rooftop fight/chase scene in YOLT. The way the camera pans out and you see it all happening in one take. You don't see that sort of filming very often.

The fight between Bond and Necros in LD….wonderful…
  • chrisno1chrisno1 LondonPosts: 3,634MI6 Agent
Oh dear, too many to choose from...
    Bond vs Grant (FRWL)
    Bond Vs PTS Thug (GF)
Bond Vs Ning Po Thugs (YOLT)
Bond Vs Lift Guard (OHMSS) - Yes, I agree with J.Blades, this is a wonderfully sharp, swift cutting fist fight
    Bond Vs Franks (DAF)
Bond Vs Chang (MR) - what a smashing time!
Bond Vs Jaws on the cable car (MR) - mad and bloodly exciting, especially as a 10 year old!
Bond Vs Necros (TLD) - If only because it is the most vertigous fight of the series
Bond Vs Sound proofed thugs (TND)
    Bond Vs Toilet Assasin (CR)
    .............

However my vote goes for Connery's Bond and his cat-like movements persuing Jacques Bouvard across the floor of the chateau in TB.
What a magnificent start, smacking a woman around the chops and seeing her wig come off. There is real malice in the punches and these two guys destroy the room. Bond viciously kills Bouvard and then escapes using his jet pack - not forgetting to offer flowers to the deceased..... WONDERFUL

Yes I forgot DAF. The fight with Franks was quite gritty. Except Bond blew the first move, but they were evenly matched and the lift was a confined, difficult place to fight.
Hated the fight on the rooftop in TSWLM. Really showed up Moore's inept fighting skills. Good climax though, and ruthless enough to prove Moore had his gruesome moments.

I've never understood why it is held so highly either. A lot of fans do really seem to enjoy it.
I agree the climax is very ruthless, but the action itself is very ordinary. There's an absence of malice to Sandor. He might be a big bald bloke, but he hardly passes muster as a fighting opponent. He's got nothing on Oddjob or even the Sumos in TMWTGG!
Overall, although I like TSWLM, IMO there isn't a single really decent fight scene in it, even the one on the train has echoes of previous 007 adventures. Christopher Wood's novel deals with this problem by removing virtually every fist fight from the story, except the final battle with Jaws. It works better that way too, again IMO.

Yes. I found that rather funny Bond accidentally breaking the glass with his elbow.

I thought it was pretty decent. Trufully, I am rating it a little higher because of the conclusion.

I agree you with both - the hotel scene and pts beach fight :007)

Can't say i hate the knife&scissors fight between Bond and Slate,
    but i would never fight against knife like Bond does in the hotel room -{
And the fight for being so hilarious, is not just because of that Bourne imitation ;)
Someone might call that entertainment, well i don't :007)

I always found the CR PTS to be better than the film.

I never said I didn't enjoy the whole movie. I just found the PTS to be the best part.

The fight scene with wrestler Cheif Peter Maivia in YOLT was very good. Maivia did a great roll out after Connery (Simmons) rammed him with the sofa. I read somewhere that Connery was a huge wrestling fan, and he and Maivia became friends.

The bell storeroom scene in OHMSS is oft overlooked, as are many things about OHMSS.

The fight in Tracy's room in OHMSS was orignally the screen test for Lazenby, done with Yuri Borienko (another wrestler), and GL broke Borienko's nose, as he was unused to pulling punches. It is rumoured that Saltzman decided on GL at that moment.

The fight at Guincho Beach in OHMSS is beautfully filmed, with arm drags in the water (yet another wrestling maneuvre), and the Aston Martin DBS in the background.

The T/Ball Jaques Bouval (?) fight, although marred by poor editing and continutiy-even the sound effects are off, is a great crowd pleaser. This is exactly what the producers felt they needed to do- get the crowd into the film early, as expectations were sky high after Goldfinger. Brilliant to use the Bell Rocket Belt and DB5 again...

Last one: Bobsled punchup between Bond and Blofeld in OHMSS. Many people forget this one, as it is overshadowed by the ending of the film. I love how Blofeld tries to decapitate Bond by forcing his head on the hard ice going by...

I'm going to start numbering from 2 because you just can't top the Bond v Grant train fight.

    2. Goldfinger pre-title sequence. Lamp in the bath tub :)
    3. On Her Majesty's Secret Service Bond v the big guy in Tracy's room.
    4. Goldfinger Bond v Oddjob. It just occurred to me that he electrocuted two people in the same movie!
    5. Octopussy Bond v the henchman (forgot his name). Take 1 - on the rooftop of the train. The fight on top of the plane was good too, although I saw that aerial slingshot coming way before the bad guy did.
    6. Thunderball pre-title sequence.
    7. Diamonds Are Forever Bond v Franks in the lift.

    There's my top 7.

Agreed. The aerial pan away is glorious, plus Barry's wonderful YOLT theme pumping in the background. I understand, in terms of fighting, its a bit poor, but its great to watch, an example of buccaneering film-making I'd say!

Two fight scenes that are favourites of mine would the fight with Red Grant on the train and the fight with Max Zorin on the Golden Gate Bridge. Brilliant punch ups. The PTS fight in Casino Royale was pretty cool as well.
