I recall off hand that the cat was supposed to have poison claws and kill Blofeld at the end. Also, there is a matte painting of the arrival at the tower where Bond is captured.

Yeah, I posted a question to this on the mi6.co.uk website in Experts section. Apparently yes, the final scene was storyboarded where Blofeld phones thru to Largo on the helicopter to find out how things are going. When Bond picks up, Blofeld is so startled the cat scratches him and as a previous scene established the cat's claws were poisoned, Blofeld got killed by his moggy. As he screams, Bond chucks the TV moniter with Blofeld's contorted face into the sea, which segues into Domino's underwater moment in the pool in the final scene, which was filmed.

Blofeld's death was never filmed however. Maybe Blofeld did have a larger part but EON wrangling saw it trimmed back to how it was in the Thunderball novel before filming.

What a shambles! The film is long as it is, so adding more would make it three hours. Another scene had Bond meet Domino at the tobaconnist as in the novel, presumably changed so he can have the Carry On stuff at the massage parlour.

I vaguely remember an NSNA ending in which Bond pulls off his toupee in response to Small Fawcett's pleadings for 007 to return to the service. ...or, was that another Connery movie from the same period (e.g., "Wrong is Right")?

At the time there was talk about connery doing nsna without a Toupee, that might have been just the press making stuff up.

I think he would have actually looked better. Connery, like most men, look far worse when they are made to appear younger than they look. Just look at him in Outland a mere two years earlier. He looks so much better than in Never Say Never Again.

He did, but that was for a couple of other reasons. a) His rug was better, not the George Burns number of NSNA b) He hadn't lost so much weight, so he looked less wrinkley and wan. Getting into shape didn't really help for NSNA, nor did his permatan.

I am not sure if it was the weight or just the fact he didn't have the beard which made him look younger.

There's quite a lot of deleted scenes - particularly action scenes

When NSNA same out one of the theater magazines at the time showed a picture of Connery jumping after a tumbling henchman - just before Bond and Domino escape on horseback. There was another picture of Bond shooting wildly surrounded by Thrush henchman in the Tears of Allah scene .

I've seen some footage of Connery swinging on a rope helped by production crew in what was a kind of Indiana Jones rope swing in the Tears of Allah sequence.

There's the well known 'horse falling into the water' shot when Bond and Domino escape Largo's retreat and Blofeld killed by the claws of his own cat.

Its frustrating because this film desperately needed more physical action and some of the deleted scenes suggested there were more action scenes to be had.

Were these scenes so bad to be rejected ? or is there an unwritten rule that NSNA should be the Bond film any 7 year old could watch.

I saw NSNA on a flight. I was about eleven. I remember seeing the horse take a real plunge off the castle in Morroco or wherever it was - hell of a landing. I've never seen it the same since on DVD or tv.

I saw that horse plunge on youtube a few nights ago - and yes can see why they removed it. The next shot is the horse swimming away - apparently unharmed.

I think they left in far too many scenes in NSNA. :D

I think that depends on the actor playing him. Ron Jeremy for example. :))

Dammit, Shunderpushy, I wanted to write the same X-(

A 7 minutes version of NSNA * would have been far enough - without the music of course......

*mostly starring Barbara Carrera in her wet swimsuit and Kim Basinger in her gymnastic dress
