Whoever played Felix in Licence to Kill. I think his portrayal of Felix is closest to what Fleming envisaged. It's hard for me to put into words, but you get the sense of camaraderie between that Felix and Dalton's Bond, much more than any other actor's portrayal of the character.

That was David Hedison. What makes you think his Leiter was anything like Leiter in the books ? Personally in LTK, I chaulked up Leiter just like any other hero's comrade hurt or killed in any standard action film. "This time it's personal" or something like that. I didn't see any intimacy besides just being ordinarly friendly or two guys that have anything in common really unlike Fleming's novels. A very standard cliche at the time coupled with everything else in that film.

This is a great question. Felix has always been my favorite Bond supporting character.

I love the Felix from Dr. No. He was incredibly cool and stylish and not too keen on Bond. He's the most intimidating and respectable Felix to date. Then, the current Felix is my second choice. Very respectable characterization of Felix. The Thunderball Felix was sort of lacking. Bond seemed embarrassed to be chumming with him. Goldfinger's Felix is the strangest casting. He's like an old detective in that one right? The Felix from LTK played in LALD right? He was okay. Very likable.

As with JBjr Jack Lord from Dr No, I believe he was supposed to be in Goldfinger but Money Talks got in the way.He was a cool Dude and Bonds Equal In style. He's what I think of as a friend to Bond and not just a CIA Contact he knows.

    Jack Lord.
I can't even begin to think of some of the offerings as Felix Leiter. It wouldn't have been so bad if there had been some effort to cast someone silimar to the last. By the time we got to DAF we had an out-of-condition cop-come-PI, that it's hard to imagine Bond would have ever befriended. I think the Felix we have now is very good, and although he's mysteriously changed colour, I think the friendship between the two is set to be on a par with the books.

Lord was good in No, he looked cool but of course Connery wasn't quite his usual alpha male self back then, more acting a character. When he got all alpha male with GF it's like you could only have a Leiter content to play second fiddle. With Rik Van Nutter you have that ego clash on screen it seems.

Would have been good to have Lord back for NSNA in a way. Not that I disliked Bernie Casey but there's always that sense that we never see them go thru anything together in terms of peril so the friendship is a bit contrived. I mean that with regards to most of the Leiters.

Jack Lord is the touchstone, certainly. But I've become very fond of Jeffrey Wright's Felix Leiter. They've laid a solid foundation for the relationship between Bond and his longtime American ally in the last two pictures, and I'm hopeful that it will continue to develop. I'd love to see this Leiter in action with 007 :007)

I have to agree. Bernie Casey was for me the most likeable and physically formidable Felix of the bunch.
