Thank you for posting your adventure DG! As a fellow diver I am quite envious! It's the pinnacle of Bond diving! Thank you for letting me live vicariously through your experience!
I wish I had a video camera with me when I got my private tour of Goldeneye so I could have shared it with everyone. That trip came out of nowhere on one of my many trips to Jamaica and it was a religious experience...
I'll never forget getting out of the car and walking towards the house as Ramsey Dacosta appeared from around the corner and gave me a big greeting!
One of my friends who is a bartender at the boutique hotel I always stay at in the West end of Negril brought me over there. He overheard me talking about Fleming and Goldeneye one night at the bar, and when I mentioned Fleming's Bon Homme (Ramsey) he said: "Didn't I ever tell you that he's my Father-in-law? My jaw dropped when he said: "We'll take my wife with us as she hasn't seen her Dad in some time and make a day of it!"
Needless to say I felt about 10 years old that night and couldn't sleep as though it was Christmas Eve!
The guests that were there at the time were away from the main house for the day so we had full run of the place. I think my knees buckled when I walked into the master bedroom and saw THE DESK! This was just before it went on tour with that exhibit at the Imperial War Museum.
The gazebo where the desk used to be is now a bar for the guests; it was amazing to share some drinks with Ramsey and listen to all of the stories he had to tell. They do not make guys like him anymore. Periodically throughout the day he would ask me:
"Are you enjoying yourself Chris?"
I think my smile was frozen that day!
I have yet to take him up on his offer to "Come back anytime and you can stay with me at my place!" He has a neat little house in the woods on the property. His girlfriend made lunch for us there; Jamaicans are the most gracious and kind people!
My favorite story was how Fleming used to swim in the buff every morning and wasn't shy at all. Ramsey said he was usually bringing a boat in during that time of the morning from going fishing and the standard exchange was always:
Ramsey: "Good Morning Commander!"
Fleming - as he emerged from the surf naked and hit the beach: "Morning!"
The few bungalows that were there at the time were tastefully done, but I cringe at the thought of what Blackwell is now doing to the property. It's going to be overdeveloped which is a shame.
My dream house! Simple, understated elegance. I really wish they would put Bond there sometime; maybe even make it Bond's private getaway in a future film!
It's relatively cheap to shoot in Jamaica and they could get plenty of other great locations in at the same time.
A true adaption of Live and Let Die (or an original story that's lean on over-the-top action, etc.) with Craig would be awesome!
That's excellent! Sounds like you had a blast. I would not mind going there myself. I hate to admit but I have not been to Jamaica, the spiritual home of James Bond. I've sailed by Jamaica many times and been to other palces in the West Indies just never made it ashore on Jamaica. Would love to go to Goldeneye too, and like you can't stomach what's being done to it. Thanks for sharing your adventure!

I've taken a look at the H&M espadrilles, which is the same style I wear (most recently bought for €6).
They're like this (but not this colour):
I took a look my Thunderball DVD just now and the ones he wears are different (Screen cap here: http://postimage.org/image/24iou5sdg/). They appear to have an elastic section next to the tongue and a slight heel - normal espadrilles are flat bottomed. I'm pretty sure I've seen that style somewhere, but will have to keep a lookout.
Incidentally, when I was trying to locate the right scene I found the scene when he emerges from the Providence Island breakwater. Probably it's been pointed out before but he can clearly be seen to exit the water barefoot, but a moment later is wearing those espadrilles!

My pair are pretty similar to the ones you have pictured except in the light grey color that Connery wore. Those pieces on either side of the "tongue" of Connery's pair may not necessarily be elastic. Nevertheless, good catch.

I didn't imagine you were wearing pink I'll keep an eye out for that style - I used to have a pair in black, but they're also often light blue in colour which may be what Connery was wearing.
On the articles main page is my article regarding my tenth wedding anniversary dive on the wrecks of Thunderball and Never Say Never Again in Nassau, Bahamas:
This might sound like a dumb question, but curiosity has got the best of me. In the I Dream of Jeannie episode the Indispensible Jeannie, Major Nelson looks at his watch which says Thunderball 007 Appreciation. I am just curious, what kind of watch is this. It looks a bit like an Omega, but definitely not a Breitling.

My Google search to figure this out has failed
Interestingly enough, I just recently saw that episode and hit rewind and pause on my DVR. Tony Nelson is indeed wearing that watch. The dial is blue and "Thunderball" is written on the dial. It's actually written around the dial almost like the numerals with "007" written above the six O'clock position. The dial is blue. It's a diver type watch. I recognize the case style and know at least one company that used that case, but have not seen that watch before and I don't remember seeing it my U.S. Thunderball press book. I have not had time to track it down yet though. My children thought it funny that I noticed it.

Hey, thanks Mick. I thought you had seen this. I had always wanted to do that dive. I have now checked it off of my James Bond bucket list. Somewhat old news now. However, Piz Gloria still looms large and of course sky diving. I consider myself pretty tough, but sky diving would be way outside my comfort zone. But they say you have to face your fear so...

Well DG there is somewhat of a juxtaposition here, although a qualified diver, I've not yet managed to get to the Bahamas, but I have done Piz Gloria, now I just have to ski/board it from the top. I thought you might enjoy a photo from my old album of the day I met my other, and infinitely better, half. This was almost 22 years ago, little did I realise that I would still be strapped to my passenger all these years later. {[]
Wow, that's a cool photo GM. Do you still sky dive? It's something I've always wanted to try, but the older I get, the tougher it is to just go do it. However, I'm one of those guys that does not like having trepidation about things like that. I have to man up one day and just go do it.

Unfortunately 3 heart attacks have curtailed my aerial activities these days. Whereabouts in the States are you? I have lots of contacts around the country to be able to hook you up.
