He could be pushing 50 by the time Craig leaves, and then I'd
Be looking for a younger man in his early 30s !
(This is nothing to do with Bond just a personal advert, I'm working
On ) )
"I've been informed that there ARE a couple of QAnon supporters who are fairly regular posters in AJB."
I do NOT want a Black Bond.
But I would still watch the film series and find enjoyment in it if they do go ahead. -{ Idris Elba is a fantastic actor, one of my favourites actually.
IMHO I feel people want a Black Bond just for the sake of having a Black Bond. To be all politically Correct. Not because they feel it would enhance the film in anyway. I'm looking forward to having the 7th Bond actor to look more like Timothy Dalton. Since they are looking back on the Books now
Well said, sir.
"I mean, she almost kills bond...with her ass."

I think it would be interesting to see him as one of the other 00's in a 'mirror' film, no doubt he'd be able to pull it off & could make the role his own. Unfortunately Sony wouldn't have this as it may tread on the toes of 007.
YES! In a role as another 00 agent he'd be perfect. I feel he could have a big role next to Craig as a valuable ally. Equally I could see him as a very interesting villain.
Race aside, I think that guy"s looks would change dramatically if he got rid of the goatee.......If they're going to allow Bond w a goatee, then get David Gandy in acting classes ASAP !
personally in my opinion, I cant see a non-white Bond working, simply due to the history of the man,
No more than ,say David Yip could be Sherlock Holmes , or Warwick Davies playing Tarzan ,Mind you I think Ricky Gervais
could be a good LT Kojak

and its all BS. Just ain't going to happen. EON are much smarter than that and Cubby would have never allowed it.
As much as I try to stay out of these conversations, I get pulled back in again! (to paraphrase Michael Corleone in The Godfather III). There are legitimate reasons that many fans would be opposed to having a Black actor play Bond that have nothing to do with racism. For some, the only way for the cinematic Bond to be true to the character Fleming created is for him to be portrayed by a white male. I understand that point of view. There are also a number of individuals who feel that Idris Elba or some other capable Black actor has what it takes to play a modern day Bond, and that belief may have absolutely nothing to do with so-called "Political Correctness". I think it would behoove us all not to be so dismissive about that opinion, even if we might disagree with it.

As a fan of Star Trek, I would welcome the homogenization of Humanity in the hopes it would encourage whirled peas.
And as a fellow Star Trek fan, I too would welcome different characters of different ethnicity to the Bond film franchise. However, I would place the emphasis on different characters. No one but a white Anglo-Saxon British man of about 6' tall and an athletic build should be Bond, irrespective of acting ability. I believe in the selection of actors to portray a well established character, physical appearance and physical characteristics are just as, if not more important than acting ability.
What if Abrams had cast Jamie Foxx as the new Captain Kirk, instead of Chris Pine? Nicole Kidman as Uhura? Samuel L Jackson as Spock? It just would not work. They are characters that have long been established, with established backgrounds and ethnicity dating back to the original series. You cannot simply change that and displace it with a different background. Kirk is not African American any more than Uhura is Australian.

Again, I agree. I don't think we should be 'colour blind' in the selection of a new actor to portray Bond for reasons I have already mentioned. Both of Bond's parents are white, his mother being Swiss and his father being Scottish. But for exceptionally rare instances, white parents do not give birth to a black child. Bond has a background which cannot be changed, for to do so would be to destroy Fleming's work.

Maybe I'm too single minded, but I fail to see why there is any rational argument that the character of Bond should be changed.
It all falls to 2 words.... Political Correctness.
I'll bite. I don't see my acceptance of a black Bond as a huge campaign for social justice or a shift to the political-left. I don't think Ibris Elba was considered because having him as Bond would improve socially disadvantaged people.
I really don't get the stigma toward "political correctness", though. Usually, the PC label is used as a way to justify rude comments.
Maybe I'm too single minded, but I fail to see why there is any rational argument that the character of Bond should be changed.
I believe the argument goes something like this - Idris Elba strikes some fans as the sort of handsome, suave, physically skilled British bloke who reminds one of James Bond. True, up until now Bond has always been white, but in this modern age why would it not be possible for Bond to be Black? Of course that is not how the character was written and presented in the novels, but we are talking about the cinematic Bond here. Is his Scottish/Swiss background really that crucial to the character we see in the movies? Perhaps not, and over time it is possible that fans could get used to Bond being Black after a few outings. Besides, Idris Elba (or perhaps another Black actor) is such a skilled performer that he would eventually make Bond his own and viewers would begin to focus more on 007's latest adventure, and less on his race. Now I completely understand that there are legions of fans who simply would not buy this argument under any circumstance, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's not rational.

I agree wholeheartedly. That's why it bugs the hell out of me when people use that phrase instead of articulating an actual basis for their position.
PC started out very noble, then got a little full of itself to the point where it's now the butt of jokes. Like any other 'movement' it got perverted. I fully agree with political correctness THE WAY IT STARTED. It was another way of saying "let's be real here." It was neither right nor left in concept.
Yes, he should have a Scottish accent ! )
Now what actor was able to do that ?
Why ? He's half Swiss
Absolutely. Bond's accent should be fairly neutral, leaning a bit towards Scots (education/parentage), not broad. Touches of English (education) and Swiss (parentage).
Side note: Connery's accent is unique, I've never heard anyone in Scotland speak exactly as he does (and that is ignoring hish dishtintive shibilant shoundsh).

Story from the daily mail about Idris being Bond.
Say as a slick, suave action hero?
8-)
So I'm hoping he'll be a villain, or an ally in a couple of films. -{

Nah, just kidding. That wouldn't go well for anyone.
